This would be my first digital camera and do you recommend it as a good camera for a first time user? Looking for any and all opinions. Thanks!

For around the same cost if not a bit less, I would for sure go with the Canon s410 instead. I own one of these for everyday photos and it's got great features and awesome picture quality for the price. Go and read some of the reviews around, I think you will agree that is the camera that you want for the price.

The A95 just OK. As big a Canon fan as I am, I'm just not crazy about their mini cameras. The S70, which is not quite as portable, is however a nice camera. For portable point and shoots, though, look at Panasonic. They have VERY nice little Leica lenses, long zooms with Image Stabilization - a huge bonus. The FX7 is the current model but it suffers from poor battery life. The FX8 and FX9 replace it and fix the battery life issue, but aren't quite available yet. Amazon.com is taking preorders on both, however.

The fold out lcd dominates. You'll need to buy rechargeable batteries and charger, as well as a bigger CF card. If you can get it for $250 or less go for it. The user interface is simple and transferring the files to a computer is a piece of cake. Great camera for a first-timer.

Yeah, I'd recommend it as well, my first camera was a Canon A series too, only it was several years back. I had the A40. I have a relative with the A95. The best thing about these cameras is what you'll hear all over, decent package all around, it's good for point and shoot, plus it gives you some flexibility with its manual adjustments.

It has been mentioned above, but if you are going to get this camera, buy some NiMH rechargeables(it's a must). Good luck.

Edit: Forgot to mention the other plus, it's obviously a good value as well, you get good bang for the buck. I'd also give the Fuji E550 a look too, I like that camera, but I hate the price of xD cards compared to CF.

I've been very happy with the A85 and the A95. They're a bit heavy, but you can get the A95 for about $275 these days - great price for a nice 5 megapixel, high quality camera. I'm not a camera pro or anything; just an average user, and it's been great.
