Canon Recall

Anyone ever had to return their camera for repair relating to the bad CCD recall? How long did it take to get it repaired and sent back to you?

I had my A75 fixed about a month ago and it took a little over a week from sending it in and receiving it back. I was very happy with their service.

do they replace the ccd itself or do they just reconnect the supposedly loose wires?

It appears that they replaced the CCD. The dead pixels have moved around so it's safe to say they did. I hope this replacement CCD is an improved one.

Damn technician scratched the paint off the buttons though. In the three years I've had the camera I never wore out the paint and yet in the few days they had it they ground it down to the plastic. I should sue them for $54 millions.

Did you guys actually send bad cameras in to get fixed, or will they replace the CCD on currently correctly functioning cameras too?

Yes, mine exibited the recall problems. Captured images were black or distorted with a purple-ish hue. My problem was intermittent; it would right itself for a few minutes. I'm glad they received the camera when it was still having a fit.

They paid all shipping charges which was awesome. If they find your camera doesn't exibit the recall problems or if there's other probable cause to the malfunction such as water damage or "dust" they'll charge you for any repairs.

I was hoping they'd just send me a replacement camera. I hope they didn't just take the CCD from another camera that will ultimately suffer the same tragic death.

Ah, I see. My mom has an A70 so I will let her know about this incase it has problems in the future. Too bad they won't just fix it now.

I just had my Sony camera repaired for the exact same problem. They e-mailed me a prepaid shipping label. They received my camera on a Friday and it was shipped back Tuesday the next week. The work order showed they replaced two CCD related parts. Sony paid for everything.

Hi,

Been some time since any action on this thread....

I had my A75 repaired back in July under the special warranty...it took about 2 weeks start to finish. The camera worked nicely for about 3 months after the repair, but then again it started to exhibit the same problems on the CCD of lines and pulsating and such that I had originally sent it in for repair.

So they sent me another UPS mailing label and it is in transit back to be repaired a second time. I hope it gets fixed properly this time. The support rep on the phone said to indicate that this was a "Repeat Repair job" so that hopefully they would dig a little deeper into the repair for my camera.

From my experience they actually mean that. I was having trouble with my XTi so I sent it in for repair and it came back after only being cleaned by them since they said they couldn't find anything wrong. They paid for it to be shipped back and they actually found and corrected the problem the second time.

I wonder if I still have my Canon A70. It did stop working for unknown reasons.
