Extended warranties, for me, are a huge waste of money. If they were not profitable for the OEM, they would not exist. If they are profitable for them, they are not profitable for me.
I have traded a bunch of broken stuff for canon refurb slr and point and shoot.. After 2-3 years, still no problem. The only thing I had to replaced was the battery.. That's a wear and tear part anyway.

That's the nature of insurance. On the average, the consumer loses. One obtains insurance to prevent catastrophic results if the event happens, not to save in the long run.
So, buy insurance if losing the $ of the purchase is catastrophic for you.
