I've decided to just throw in the towel and spend about $600 on the whole camera/memory/battery/warranty thing with buydig and get the S300. It's not like I won't use the optical zoom or anything.

I have S100 and my friend has a S110. Both have one flaw and that is the optical viewfinders
aren't configured right. And it is documented in their manual(If i am not wrong).
If S300 has fixed this problem along with the 3X optical zoom then the $100 is worth it.

I was just reading the review from the same site for the S300 and they say the same thing:

<< Perhaps the camera's biggest weakness, we found the S300's optical viewfinder to be quite tight, showing approximately 79.4 percent of the image area at wide angle (165 k). Frame accuracy was approximately 84.25 percent at the telephoto (139 k) setting. >>

I own a S100 (whats the difference between the 100 and the 110?), and the biggest problem I have is that the images are freaking HUGE (both in data size and literal size). Each image is at LEAST 1/2 of a megabyte (500k), and they are like 1024x768 or larger when you put them on your comp. I know if you go into manual you can change to lower res, but then you get all the settings messed up that are just automatic. I wish Canon had made the image 800x600 as default so I wouldn't have to resize every picture I take! (And the pictures take up a TON of memory, 2 pics = 1MB, so you need at LEAST 64MB card (I bought 128MB for $200 a while back ))

the s110 actually came out AFTER the s300. Plus, the s110 has better styling, a sleaker body then the s300. As for the difference between the s100 and s110, the s110 has an additional microphone and an upgraded processor for better speed and movies. I'd forgoe all of this and wait for the minolta DImage X- which is only 4.8 ounces and comming out in three weeks. Another camera to look at is the kyocera s3, 3.3 megapixel camera, also smaller than the s110. Good stuff

i believe the mis-shifted viewfinder is problematic on most digicams if not all then, if that's the case.

the fuji 4800 has the same problem (in fact the manual shows examples of how to better adjust for it)

Forget both models and buy a real camera, a nice SLR camera like the Nikon N80, don't have to worry about megapixel crap

it's a $20 difference from the S110 to S300 at buydig. so basically you're paying $20 for 3x zoom. Sounds good enough to me.

Neither, Macro capabilities on the Cannon Cameras short of the G2 stink....

Returned both my A20 and S110 for a Nikon 775....

However out of the two I agree that the zoom of the s300 is worth any additional cost you may incur

I have done the same research before I got rid of my old Canon S10. I was thinking upgrade to either Canon S110 or S300. I end up go for Sony DCR-PC9 digital camcorder instead.

Anyway, here is the comparison I used back then.

Check Steves DigiCam review here.

cliftonite - from what i understand about the microdrives, they kill battery consumption. you're better off getting a CF Type 1 card if that's the case, they make 340mb versions. CF Type 2 is Microdrive.

Thanks for the info ZeroBurn, the reason that i wanted the microdrives was because the 340 meg drive is only 104 bucks and the 1 gig one is 180 or 190. If the S110 can use the microdrives i would love to pick up on of them at those prices.

cliftonite - Type II Compact Flash (microdrive) is not supported by the S110 anyway, nor the S300 i believe

This page will show the main differences. Zeroburn is right, CF2 cards aren't supported by either camera, because of power consumption.

Check out this page for a detailed review on each camera.

I've been reading over at the dpreview forums and some people have been saying that the s300 is going to be replaced by the s310 that is already in production, that's what they've heard from Canon. I'm probably going to go with the s300. I don't know what the main differences between the two are, with the s100 and the s110, it was the inclusion of the new mic and video.
