Our SD100 has recently started having lines in the picture. We can see fuzzy purple lines in the lcd screen. Everything looks fine on play except for a purple fuzz on the left side. The issue remains on the picture when viewed on a PC.

Camera has never been dropped or rough housed. No dings scratch dents etc. We've had it for about 3 or 4 years.

Anyone have any issues with theirs if they have one?

It's a bad CCD. They were produced by Sony and were covered under a special extended warranty by Canon Canada atleast, don't know about the US...they affected alot of P&S's from multiple manufactures of that era as Sony is a HUGE CCD manufacture.

you got a good run out of it...find a SD300+ for cheap and call it a day

My wife loves her SD450 we got right when it came out. Amazon listed it for about $50 less than the blowout they had going on the SD400. Only recently has it sold for less.

I love my SD620 as well.

Yep, definitely sounds like the CCD. My Nikon 5700 went bad, and they replaced it free, PLUS, they cleaned and adjusted the camera for free while they had it.

This is the details; the repair is normally about $150 through canon for a replacement LCD installed. The part is about $50 shipped.

This Service Notice will update Canon U.S.A., Inc.'s previous CCD Image Sensor Advisory, dated October 6, 2005.

It has come to our attention that the vendor-supplied CCD image sensor used in certain Canon digital cameras and digital video camcorders may cause the following malfunction: When the product is used in recording or playback mode, the LCD screen and/or electronic viewfinder may exhibit either a distorted image or no image at all. While reports of this malfunction have been rare in the United States, we have determined that it may occur if the product is exposed to hot and humid environments.

Notice of Additional Affected Products:
As a result of our continuing investigation of this malfunction, we have determined that the 11 models listed below, in addition to the 16 models listed in our Service Notice concerning this malfunction, dated October 6, 2005, may be affected.

Affected products:

- Camcorders: ZR60, ZR65 MC, ZR70 MC, ZR80, ZR85, ZR90, ELURA 40 MC, ELURA 50
- Digital Cameras A60, A70, A75, A300, A310, S230, SD100, SD110, A40(*), A80(*), A85(*), A95(*), S1 IS(*), S60(*), S200(*), S330(*), S400(*), S410(*), S500(*)

*Models added as of Oct.31, 2006

Malfunction:
It has been confirmed that the connecting parts of the internal wiring of the CCD used in affected products may become disconnected, especially if the affected products are stored or used in high-temperature and high-humidity environments. If this occurs, the signal is not output from the CCD normally in Shooting Mode, which may cause a distorted image or the absence of an image. This malfunction can be confirmed on the LCD monitor screen during shooting. The same malfunction also appears on the recorded image.

Canon's Response:
Effective immediately, and regardless of warranty status, Canon will repair, free of charge, the products listed above exhibiting the above-mentioned malfunction if Canon determines that the malfunction is caused by the CCD image sensor. Canon will also cover the cost of shipping and handling in connection with this repair.

U.S. residents are kindly directed to contact the Canon Customer Support Center for further assistance at 1-800-828-4040. Support hours are Monday thru Friday - 8:00 AM to 12:00 midnight; and Saturday 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM (all times EST). Alternatively, if electronic support is preferred, please send your email to carecenter@cits.canon.com

This information is for residents of the United States of America and Puerto Rico only. If you do not reside in the USA or Puerto Rico, please contact the Canon Customer Support Center in your region.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused by this issue, and appreciate your understanding in this matter. Thank you for your support and patronage of Canon products.

I am not sure how long they are extending the warranty, but it's only due to the manufacturing problem above and not other damage.

QFT...

My wife went from a Coolpix 3500 to a SD300 and was amazed. I surprised her with the SD450 and she was even happier (video was much better and she follows our cats around a lot taking movies and pics). I got the SD450 at a steal and with selling her pretty new SD300 on ebay with box and manuals, I ended up out of pocket like $50-75.

I have gone A50 - A70 - A620...I don't see myself getting rid of any of these as they take great pictures and if damaged or submerged; I am not out a lot of cash.

I may pick up a nicer cam in the future for strictly formal shooting.

Bonus story: My brother once picked up a TUMI bag at Marshalls or TJ Max...inside one of the inner compartments was a SD300...he ended up selling it and the bag was free. He did report to the store that if anyone called on returning an item with something personal in it to let him know. Nothing came back.

Mine had the same problem; got it fixed, and sold it for $100.

I put that money towards my new SD630.

Image stabilization ftw.

Seconded ... I have an SD800IS which is pretty much the same camera but 7.1 instead of 8.1mp & it takes great pictures.

IMO image stabilization is more useful then higher resolution in a point & shoot camera.

I'd say get a fuji f31d - they are only 220 something on amazon right now. What a steal! - Usable ISO up to 1600 - can go up to 3200 in a pinch. I've got an f20 (the one with out the manual settings - you can get them for low 100 something now. It goes to ISO 2000 - and is quite usable at 1600. . .
