The rebate for this camera is $50. There's no Zio reader for this model, only the ZR30 and ZR25 and the Elura 20MC. ZR20 doesn't use memory card.

I would like to get in on this but could someone tell me if I'm wrong or right about how MSN deal works? Already, I've bought $400 worth of stuff through MSN, so my MSN money back total right now is 4x20 or $80. As I understand it, the total amount you can get back TOTAL is $100. So, no matter how much more I spend through MSN, the most additional money I can get back is $20, which would bring me to the TOTAL allowable of $100.
Am I reading this right?
And I thus out of luck on this Deal?
Thanks!

Where does MSN send the check to on Jan?

4. Get your reward
In January, MSN will send you an email with a link to a page where you can tell us where you'd like us to mail your reward. Then, MSN will send you a check!

How did you guys get pricematch from photoalley? Admire.

I still want in on this deal. Anyone got any suggestions for cobbling together a new money-saving package? BTW, I've only got $40 left from MSN.

Sams has 3 miniDV for $17. BTW, I got the tripod/bag kit; It's nothing fancy. Good if you don't already have it (which I did).

Hey guys! Long time reader, first time poster... Here's my question:

I just stumbled upon this topic and jumped on this deal immediately. I don't care about any of the MSN or MIR stuff, just the fact that I can get the camera for AllStarCamera.coms price. (Long story there... there are without a doubt the worst online company I've ever dealt with...)

Anywho, I am not sure how to "pricematch" an online company, so I just called PhotoAlley.com's Customer Service line. They said not only do they not pricematch, they never have in the past. So, can someone please tell me the technique used to get this deal? Obviously you guys all have done it, but no one posted "how" exactally, heheh.

Thanks in advice guys, hope to post a deal or two soon!

You need American Express Blue Card for price match.
Here's information from other web site
Buy that expensive digital camera from a well known source and then pricematch the cheapest site you can find online or in a magazine like Shutterbug.

Apply for a new card if you do not have one. Use it for security, price matching with online stores and printed ads, and for returning stuff you normally cannot return! 0% APR for first 6 months. No annual fee. Also BlueLoot online rewards, free Smartcard reader, free MP3s, and access to concert tickets. Free Extended warranties.

It's not just where you buy, it's how you buy. This card will refund you the difference if what you purchased drops in price within a 60 days. (Up to $250 per covered item, up to $1000 per year.) You can also purchase a product from a familiar vendor and then immediately submit pricematches against those more risky vendors. Great for expensive tech gear like digital cameras and CPUs. Call 1-800-557-8317 to request a pricematch. Have your receipt and a copy of the lower price printed out with a date. You will not get reimbursed for differences in tax or shipping. $10 is the minimum.

Return protection lets you return 'unreturnable' items upto 90 days after purchase. Refunds are for up to $300 per item, with a maximum of $1,000 annually per Cardmember account.

Being a newbie, I'm not sure if I can bump on this forum... if so....

!BUMP!

I'd really like others to check this out because if this works, it's a fantastic deal. PhotoAlley now has free shipping in January with orders over $200 so this could be a cool 40% off this excellent camera.

Thanks again!

Hey DadofTwins.... where did you get that quote from? I just ordered the Blue card and called the number to ask about the price matching. They told me that it needs to be in print form. I find that odd since everyone on Anandtech matches it to webpages, hehehe.

Any more help would be appreciated.

Thanks guys!

Bobob,

They do and will pricematch websites. They will ask you to print out a webpage and fax it over. So you just do it and wait for a check. I personally received $175 for this very deal, so just sit back and relax.

QUESTIONS FOR EXPERTS:

How do I connect this thing to a laptop or a desktop if I don't have a DV in? The manual says PC should be "equipped with a DV terminal conforming to IEEE 1394/DV compatible capture board". Could anyone translate it into English, please?

Another question is for still photo transfer (I know resolution is shi*ty but it should be OK for the Web). Canon touts their optional Floppy Disk Still Image Recorder which I think is ridiculous' cause there must be easier ways. Any comments? Thanks.

You would need a Firewire (1394) port on your computer box and a firewire cable to transfer images from the camcorder to PC. If you don't havee one, you will need to pick up a firewire card. Soundblaster Audigy comes with one firwire port, but if you need more, you can pick up a dedicated firewire board. Windows movie maker, Ulead Mediastudio Pro or something similar program is the application needed to do your video editing and transferral of data.

Hey, thanks StringsAttached.

"They do and will pricematch websites. They will ask you to print out a webpage and fax it over. "

Well, I called the number DadofTwins left twice tonight. The first time they said "Absolutely no webpages" and the second time I called the woman told me "I just started here, and my supervisor told me no webpages."

So, should I just do it and fax it anyways? I don't want to risk it though... I think maybe they changed their policy at the beginning of the year maybe? I just can't understand why they'd deny this so much...

Part of an answer:
You mention: "...equipped with a DV terminal conforming to IEEE 1394/DV compatible capture board". Well, IEEE 1394 is Firewire (a faster version of USB, commonly used for mega-fast external burners and video capture software). I can see 3 solutions for you:

1) Buy a G4. All G4s come standard with 2 Firewire inputs.
2) Get a new Sound Blaster. The new Audigy's come with a Firewire input.
3) I believe you can get a PCI card type-thing with a Firewire input.

Hope that helps.

Bobob abd Boogoo, thanks so much. I've never even considered getting firewire before so this info is surely very useful. I found this card made by Kouwell Electronics on Newegg for $22. Appears to have everything in one package. Compare to an Audigy card that costs 3 times as much it seems to be the most economical solution. Reviews on Newegg site seem to be favorable, but are you familiar with this product? Also, do you know if I can transfer still images using this card?

FIREWIRE IEEE 1394 CONTROLLER CARD ( KW-582V2 ), 3+1(2 independent external ports + 1 internal/external shared port) with cable & Video Editing Software Retail Version for PCI Slot. Model #: IOFLEX-FW4 Model#: KW-582V2

Firewire Card on Newegg

Bobob,

If Amex Blue starts refusing pricematching with websites it's a very serious and unpleasant development, and will surely p*ss a lot of people. I very much hope the CSRs you had spoken with were just a couple of incompetent as***les. Try to call them tomorrow when their supervisors are around and see what they say. Seriously, who on earth would need their frigging card if it wasn't for the best BVG on market? I will surely cancel mine if it's true.

StringAttached....

(1) I have no experience with the Controller Card version of the inputs, but after looking at that unit, I'd say go for it (unless you want to blow all your money on a new system ) In terms of just Firewire in general... I love it. I've been doing digital video editing for almost 5 years now and Firewire has made it all fun/easy/possible, although I havn't checked out the new USB 2.0....

(2) Regarding the real question of this thread D): I certainly hope the CSRs were on crack, but I have a feeling it is true. On their webpage it mentions "PRINT SOURCE" which usually means like the newspapers and stuff. I wish I knew where DadofTwins got his quote. I could use that to further my point... but anyways, I'll call again tomorrow and ask. I will be sure to mention that "my freinds" have been pricematching online for months now.
