Can't access my network shares

I imaged my old hard drive onto a new computer. That hard drive had a static ip address assigned to the network card. When I started using my new computer I had no problem accessing network shares or using the Internet. However, the problem was that nobody could access the network shares on my computer. If I change my IP address to one provided by DHCP they can get to my shares, but if I switch it back to my old one that I used from the last computer they can't. What gives?

You changed the computer name. And if you are in a domain and have a different computer name, but same IP (and DNS is still resolving the old name to the same IP), that will be why.

Guys, keep in mind that I imaged the old hard drive that had no problems from another computer. Why would a static IP give me trouble, but when I use DHCP it does not? The network shares can be accessed fine with DHCP, just not Static. Thanks.

networking issue.

Could be any number of things..IP conflict, name resolution (general connectivity)
dns registration with DHCP (if you have a dns server)
subnetting issues.

why would you go with static over DHCP? If it's a big issue, add a reservation, see if that fixes it.

You're adding a Static IP, but when you do so, are you also adding your DNS entries, the default dns suffix, WINS (if you use it), and the default gateway?

Did my post apply? If you did what I said in that post, then that is why it isn't working. This is to do with machine account names and IP addresses registered to same.

So did you?
