Can't access NAS through Windows 8.1 PC anymore

This used to word perfectly, but since I reinstalled my Windows 8.1 setup I can't access my NAS through Windows Explorer anymore.

The weird thing is: I can still access it by logging in into the admin console via "http://ix4-300d/manage/manage.html" in IE.
From here I can access and edit my shares, download stuff, etc.

But for some reason my PC can't find my NAS anymore using file explorer -> Network -> \\ix4-300d\.
This sucks, cause now I can't copy anything to the NAS anymore (which used to work perfectly).

I guess it must be some network setting in Windows, but I can't find it.
Anyone knows what could be the problem?

Both the PC and the NAS are in workgroup "WORKGROUP" btw.

Thanks!!

If DNS is working, you probably turned off SMB file sharing somehow. (That would be on the NAS.)

What's the output of the "net use" command?

You mean in cmd on the Win 8.1 machine?

Code:
System error 1222 has occurred.

The network is not present or not started.

Hmm, I have some more information:

it seems I also can't access my HTPC (Win8.1) using my desktop PC. The funny thing is, I can access my desktop using my HTPC (I'm copying files from my desktop to my HTPC right now).

So: I have 3 connected devices (desktop, NAS, HTPC) and only my desktop cannot directly access content on the other 2 devices, everything else works.

This is the error msg I get when I try to access my HTPC using Windows Explorer:

Oh and another thing: both my HTPC and desktop are in the same Homegroup (same password and all) but the Desktop doesn't show up in the Homegroup list in File Explorer.
There must be some network setting or service turned off or something; before I reinstalled my Windows (a month or so ago) I never had any probs.

Have you tried rebooting your router? it might remember your old computer settings.

Slasnesh - Are you trying to access the NAS from a Windows 8 computer ?

My problem still continues, this is extremely insane, I have no solution, almost a month later and roughly a dozen people input.

Thx for the advice.

I have a similar value in that reg key (ProviderOrder: RDPNP,LanmanWorkstation, webclient)
I tried changing it anyway, but it doesn't work.

I can't believe how this is possible. As you can see, Windows recongnizes my NAS (ix4-300) both as media device and 'other' device, but apart from accessing its management console I can't access its files. Before when it worked, it used to be in the "Computer" section too, next to HTPC.

A couple of weeks ago I changed my computer's name and I could not connect to my other PCs. It took me a few days to realize what was wrong.

It was fixed by turning on some Windows Services from manual to automatic; followed by deleting all current users, which you may want to try; I think the command is close to:

netusers delete * /all

If you are always going to be the Admin, give the Admin access to the other users. The hard part is going to be the Services to turn on, I know what services to turn on for Windows 8 and finally don't use homegroups; only workgroups. Homegroups are fine when it comes to simply sharing a folder, when you add a NAS and including share folders then workgroups are your only solution, they require more setting up but they are stable and reliable if your network is trouble free.

You probably talking about command to delete mapped drives?

net use * /d

I don't think you need to delete all users. That's beyond comprehension.

Problem solved!

I've just upgraded my Win 8.1 install to Windows 10, and everything works like it should now
