When creating the media, make sure you choose update another computer, and select the right version to match your version of 8.

Good luck.

When I go to MS website and download Windows 10, I can not see the option for Windows 10 PRO. Only Windows 10 and some other Windows 10 versions that I've never seen before.

You can use the media creation tool on any computer that can by updated to 10. Can you try another computer for the tool?

I have already tried this which resulted in Windows 10 not activating. Whether or not this was the exact reason as to why Windows 10 didn't activate or because the "edition" that was downloaded into the USB was incorrect (I am running Win8 PRO and the media creation tool at my friends house gave me Win10 Home) OR maybe because of MS activation servers being to busy etc. I will never know.

So in order to avoid all the different variables that can go wrong, I'm just going to have to wait for WU to just give me the Win10 upgrade. After I upgrade I won't even bother with a clean install. I've spent 3 days on this already and I just want to get back to normal computing usage.

When using the media creation tool you have to be specific about which version you want to download and if you want an iso or bootable usb drive. If you pick correctly you will have the right one for your system.

It's not on the website. You will see the choices once you run the tool. It's really not that hard.

Having followed this entire thread from the beginning I believe that WU is the most reasonable course of action for the OP to follow since the simple instructions on the media creation tool are proving to be beyond his comprehension.

Gentlemen the contextual inconsistency of the language in this thread is serving to provide additional confusion to an already confused OP who just wants some simple instructions on how to install his OS. With that said using WU takes all of the decision making out of the users hands and will install the correct version of 10 that they are entitled to. Once the OP gets all of his 8.1 updates the upgrade dialog box will appear in the taskbar which he can click on and reserve his copy and upgrade once the option is presented to him automatically. MS was wise to incorporate this style of upgrade to allow people unfamiliar with the basics of this type of upgrade to do so with minimal intervention on their part.

Aolish, have you finished your upgrade to be eligible for 10 yet? Just remember that you will have to updgrade to 8.1 (AFAIK through the store, as before) to be eligible for 10. Windows 8(.0) is not eligible for the free update.

Yeah, I have Windows 8.1 and I have the upgrade icon but I'm still in the queue. In the meantime I'm just reinstalling the programs and games again.

So I finally upgraded to Windows 10 using WU. Everything went fine. So far its running smooth from what I'm seeing. HOWEVER, there seems to always be something wrong. My screen randomly blinks. Its a very fast blink, the blink isn't slow but very fast but slow enough for me to notice. It happens in sessions or long periods in between. Its very annoying to see and I'm not sure if its a bug or other problem that I don't know about. All I know is that this blink was never there during my first or even SECOND install of Windows 10 where my activation didn't go through. Does anyone know the problem? I'm using the LATEST AMD drivers, why is the screen blinking now but before it didn't (first and second install of Win10)? I just can't catch a break.

I would check to see if you have the latest graphics driver from amd which is 15.7.1. I updated my laptop to it this morning and is different than the other 15.7.1 from the other day and different from the driver on wu.

Maybe try one of these settings:
Alternate DVI operational mode
Reduce DVI frequency on high resolution displays

Read below.

I am using the latest drivers from AMD, as I am using Windows 10 more and more I am noticing more anomalies that is happening on my desktop. I was doing some work when suddenly the entire UI changed to tablet mode for no reason at all. I had to go back into settings and change it back to desktop. I don't know how that happened unless I pushed some tablet hotkey/shortcut that I don't know about. Here are the following things that have happened so far

-Switching to Tablet Mode for no reason.
-Start menu left panel completely blank after a wallpaper change. (normal now)
-Blinking screen for no reason.
-Monitor turns off when I don't use the computer for awhile (despite this feature being disabled in power settings)

Could this be signs of a corrupted installation of Windows 10?

I could be corruption somewhere with the registry. Did you have any 3rd party software present when you upgraded? I initially had issues with upgrading with 8gadgetpack installed and I had to uninstall it before performing the upgrade. Once I'd successfully migrated to 10 I reinstalled my sidebar software.
