There's nothing wrong with marijuana. If she starts doing coke, then you've got something to worry about.

Hmm. Let's see... your older sister is going to a party? And there's going to be *gasp!* alcohol and maybe pot there?! God forbid your sister might want to actually have a social life.. From the way you make it sound, it's like if she gets within a half-mile of someone smoking a joint she's going Straight To Hell (do not pass GO do not collect $200)

My advice: Lighten up and let her live her life.

I've a feeling that nothing you could possibly say or do will alter what she does with her life. Most people have to find out the hard way (unfortunately, I was one of those people too). Just be there for her when she needs someone to talk to, and talk to her with respect for the fact that she chose to, or not to. She is not only your sister, but another living breathing human being..... -kd5-

Take care of your family man, some people don't even have a family to look after.

I think it's nice you're looking out for her but you got to realize people have to live their own lives - everyone makes mistakes - I've made a lot in my day and I wouldn't change it if I could go back and do so - it's all about learning.

Your observation is wrong. I hang out with plenty of girls who do plenty of drugs and are still virgins.

Whoa. Back it up a little. That's way stereotypical and really oversimplistic.

I mean, drugs aren't good (they can wreck your life - I can attest), but that's going too far.

I suppose they all steal and have guns too?

<< I never said that it adversly affects the brain. I just said that it doesn't kill braincells
this was all i could dig up now

so if you recognize that it adversely affects the brain (unless you want to deny that), then why are you making fun of him? it's his sister for god's sake... for example, if you had a sister, and you found out she was giving bj's to every guy she met, even if you knew that she didn't have any stds, wouldn't you still be disturbed? it's just one of those things. there's nothing *wrong* about giving bjs, it's just disturbing to know that a close family member does it regularly.
>>

Exactly gopunk. Guys, take it easy on him. No matter what your personal opinion on alcohol and pot, he can be disturbed that his sister's doing something illegal, right? Lay off, just because you have different standards than the ones he and his sister were raised with, doesn't make you automatically right. And I'm certain he's heard opinions that match yours before, but it hasn't made him any less able to choose his perspective on things like this. He has a right to be concerned.

Alright, your sister is a senior, she's old enough to make her own decisions and be responsible for them

When you grow up (I don't mean to be condescending because I was the same way) you'll realize that the reason a hell of a lot of people do the thing you think is so awful and devlish is because in fact it's not that big a deal. Smoking up on occassion does not equal getting pregnant and doing crack.

<< [probably should... I kinda feel like i dont' even know who she is anymore because I honestly never even thought about the possibility of her doing drugs until this very moment. >>

OMFG, get real! Look I don't think doings drugs is a great thing to do, but "don't even know who she is anymore" based upon her doing weed? It's not like she is getting together with friends and murdering people for fun. It's just marijuana.

Well gosh marijuana. Whatever will you do? Maybe you should tell on her. Marijuana isn't really that big of a deal, don't worry about it, she will quit when she wants to. If indeed she does smoke it.

Lighten up, he didn't say she was evil, he just said it was something he'd never considered her doing before! He thought she was smart enough not to go to parties and get trashed (which, no matter how many of you may enjoy that pastime, obviously has negative effects). Quit treating him like he's a four year old who should already know the facts of life. Go back and read his original post and decide whether he merits the strong responses he's getting.

HotChic, that's the point. He's not four years old. He's a junior in high school, and by the time you've reached that age, hopefully you've gotten out of the D.A.R.E stage and started thinking for yourself. Again, I'm not saying everyone SHOULD do drugs, I don't care either way. But he sounds like a four year old, (oh my god! pot! what is she thinking!), and I think people are giving him a hard time because most people are over that by age 17.

started thinking for yourself Key words there, I think he IS thinking for himself. Thinking for yourself doesn't involve discarding everything you were taught and conforming to the opinions of the ATOT folks. He's not freaking out that she's doing pot, he's disappointed that she'd make that choice. He's got a right to his emotional reaction to her choices, and nearly everyone here would prefer him to have no opinion about her actions at all. That's my problem.

He really doesn't sound much like he's freaking out, just disappointed. Freaking out would be this:

OMG! I just found out my sister's doing pot and drinking at this party! Should I tell my parents or confront her? I can't believe she'd something so stupid. What's the best way to make her realize she's ruining her life?

Instead, he says: "i dont do or wnat to be around that kind of sh!t" "... dunno if she does that kind of stuff but the fact that she's going in the first place makes me a little bit suspicious" and "I thought my sister was smart enough to stay away... I guess not"

He doesn't say, as many of the immediate responses seemed to assume, that he thinks she's ruining her life or becoming an addict. Everyone's got this conditioned response that people who don't do or approve of pot think all folks who use it are going to become junkies and go to hell. Which is not how Braves is thinking, according to his post.

[Edit] Skoorb, when he says he doesn't know who she is anymore, it's fairly valid. He just discovered a part of her that he didn't know existed before and that naturally changes his perception of her. It's not necessarily a sign of freaking out. Just a logical adjustment.

Well then what do you want me to do? If most of us disagree with him, how can he expect us to help and sympathize with him? I think he's getting bent out of shape over something that shouldn't worry him at all. Same goes for most of the people here. Therefore, this is the wrong place to ask for help. He should just talk to her about it.
