Cant bring myself to buy

I'm the same way. Spent the last few years agonizing over getting something more fun while driving an 04 TSX (obviously not a bad car but not much more than a gussied up Accord TBH).

So last Spring my Dad got a 135i and spends his time in it trying to get the best fuel economy he can. After seeing that, I decided not to wait until I reach that point and bought an 09 WRX. Should be getting it next week.

First thing I will do is drop in a short shifter. Second is better speakers and a sub. I finally juts told myself that I can afford it and I want it so I should have it.

You will have a battle with yourself, and you may choose to buy a lesser car. If you do, you will forever dream about the car you could have had. If you buy that car and it is within your reach, you'll know how it feels, and it will feel good.

I was in your position 2.5 years ago. I bought the car and have never looked back.

Just don't do it and get in to debt you can't handle. I bought my 2002 S2k 3months ago. I'm loving it. It puts a big smile on my face. I'm not in debt and used the £££ I had in savings. It could have gotten me 6% gains tops a year but f0ck it. I got the £££ and I've put up with old, rubbish A to B cars since I was 18. I'm 24 now and it's time to buy some stuff I enjoy.

I wouldn't do it and be in debt that was too much though admittedly.

I bought 2nd hand and saved loads of £££.

chorb is not Christ and thus his personal interaction with the economy will have a completely and utterly meaningless influence on its direction, so he should do what's good for the goose, not the gander.

That is not true. It was the huge contraction on spending that made the Great Depression really bad.

So chorb's now charged with keeping the country afloat? Whether he buys or not doesn't influence whether others do and it's only millions of people's interactions with the economy that matters.

GOOD. A lot of people buy a new car as soon as they can. I have an entry level job making $35k, and some of my coworkers buy $20k cars on that salary or the $30k we start at. It's like they get a job after college, and their first instinct is to waste money on a car. One guy bought a $22k Lancer on an impulse, and now he's traded up to a slightly used 4Runner. It made no sense-- he increased his debt from about $30k to $50k. His car payment is about what rent would cost, so he lives with his parents.

Meanwhile, I've been looking at $75k condos. I decided to rent for now instead, but the point is I'd rather spend the money on something that actually affects quality of life.


Here's one thing to consider.. the cars we lusted after when we were kids are now dirt cheap. Driving a vehicle you want is good, but it doesn't have to be a new car. I'm happy with my 1999 Cherokee that cost me $3500 + 700 lift + 900 tires. I've wanted one of those for years! Is there a similar vehicle for you?

I went through the same thing as you, except I took the other route. I rather enjoy my nice car now, nice vacations, and my Harley, at the age of 24, than be an old fart and live my life at a later date. If family, marriage, kids, come, I will adjust, till then, it's living free.

My buddy today at work who I haven't seen in 2 years got married a few months ago. He had a condo in Brazil and used to go up all the time to relax. I asked him if he still goes up and he says "no, I'm saving up money". Diden't say for what, but I can already assume the wife is pressuring him into a house and god knows what. Don't want to be like him.

Why not just get a Mazda Miata?

You get the reliability, fuel economy, and pricetag of a Focus in a car that's very, very fun to drive. For about $16k you can get a two-year-old Miata with low miles, traction control, stability management, and a limited-slip differential.

Similarly, you could look into getting one of of a wide variety of hot hatchbacks, like the Mazdaspeed3, Impreza WRX, and Golf GTI. None of these will break your bank, but all of them will break speed limits.

Alternately, get two cars - an econobox for the week, and a stripped-out road rocket for the weekends. Apparently, it's possible swap a 430 horsepower LS2 V8 from a Corvette into a mid-90s RX7 and gain under 100lbs...and, at the moment, both LS2 V8s and RX7s with shredded wankels are quite cheap.

I bought the vehicle I wanted when I got my first "real" job, have since got married, and bought a house.... I have around $5k in credit card debt and a mortgage. I couldn't be happier with my choices.

I'm one of the people who thinks it's better to live your life now because you can't take it with you when you die.

My wife and I both contribute to our 401k plans at work with workplace match. I also have a ROTH IRA, Traditional IRA, and a mutual fund that my parents started around 17-18 years ago when I was 10years old.

All I'm trying to say is that sometimes you need to treat yourself and you can still be responsible and get what you want. $30k isn't bad if you have a good job and don't overspend in other areas of your life.

I'm thinking about a Miata as a daily driver. I've seen a few 1990 ones for $2000! I wonder how reliable such a car would be though

Audi A5, maybe A8 (but A8's are huge and money sinks if something goes wrong. i love them though. so classy )
