Can't Connect to internet

I recently had to get a new motherboard for my PC. It was working fine online with the old one before it broke, but when I put my new board in the internet at my house wouldn't work. I figured it was something I had to setup so I took the PC to school without much thought. The school network worked immediatly when I connected. Now I am home for break and I can't connect to the internet here. This computer downstairs works, but my computer connected to this connection does not. I called my internet service provider but they couldn't find anything wrong. They mentioned that it seems like something is wrong with the ethernet card and the IP address, but the few things we tried in command prompt didn't do anything.

My computer recognizes that it is in fact connected, when I connect the wire it says it's a good connection, and tells me when I disconnect it, so it doesn't seem like the connection is the problem. I tried using the repair runction in the network options, but it told me that it could not setup the IP address.

Anyone have any ideas on what to do about this? I am pretty much lost when it comes to this sort of thing.

Try releasing and renewing your IP address.

Try pinging your default gateway. If that works, try pinging google.

Try turning off your windows firewall and your routers firewall.

Type "ipconfig" in the command prompt, and copy+paste what it says. Also, are you connected to the cable modem directly or through a router? I remember my connection didn't work properly when I had it directly connected to the modem.

There is no reason why it wouldnt work when you have a router connected to your modem.

Yes there is. No DNS server is avalable. Check the lights on your modem and let us know which ones are lit and which ones are out. Please tell us what brand of modem it is too and how are you trying to connect to the internet (cable, dsl, satellite, phone, T1, OC192, T3, ISDN,etc).

He can still get an ip from his routers DHCP if it is enabled or even exsits on it.

like it was sugested before:

* Try turning off your Router and Modem then start it again in folowing steps:
1 Start Modem
2 Start Router
3 Start Computer

* Try new cable, some cables may stop working.. network cable from Router. I have seen alot of this in my life.

* Resinstall drivers of Network card, make sure your drivers match version of your Network card. Check your manufacture(mainboard) web site for latest drivers/updates.

* Make sure your Network setting are set for dynamic IP - its windows Default usely.

If all this dont work your Network card simply have issues that you will not be able to fix, in other words its a difective MB. Replace it while you can

Hope this will help you.

Are you connecting directly to the modem, or through another computer. If it's through another computer, you need to have internet connection sharing enabled.
