Can't decide between Lite-On LTD3 or Pioneer DVD-ROm

I've heard opposite things said about both of them. It seems Lite-on's is faster, and the pioneer has cool slot loading.

Which one is the most quiet, and what about speed?

Forget the slot loading, the novelty wears off quick, the performance difference won't ever wear off.

The Lite-ON has a superb Price/Performence/Quality ratio....the Pioneer is marginally better quality but slower....costs a fair bit more too I would imagine?

Forget the slot load - I had a Pioneer slot load a couple of years ago, and it put small scratches on some CDs and DVDs. The scratches weren't bad enough to affect playback, but they shouldn't have been put there by the drive. I replaced it after about a year with a faster tray load on another brand.

For me personally, it doesn't matter how quiet they are since I rarely use my DVD-ROM drive. I'm using a liteon 163d and it's a little noisy

I don't know jack about lite-on, but I just bought my third Pioneer 106S because I love them so much.
I had heard talk about noise a while back, but NEVER heard noise coming from the drives.
They are as fast as anything else I've had, are nothing to install, and play DVD's without problem.
I think slot loading is fantastic, one less button to push to get the tray open or closed just to get it out of the way to load or after taking the disc out.

Only bad thing about slot loaders is there is no tray to hold your coffee cup

I can't/won't give a comparison between the two because, though I've read about both, I haven't seen any articles that compare the two. Also, I don't own either one so I'm not qualified. I'm throwing my two cents in cause I just went thru this decison, and I chose the Pioneer. The reason is because despite any reviews I've read, I seriously don't think I'd notice the performance difference if there even is one. And even if I did, I can't image it being that great. Plus I'm upgrading from a four year old cd-rom, so ANY performance increase is gonna make me happy. And last but not least, I wanted the slot load, I'm not ashamed to admit that I think it's cool, and novelty or not, I want it.

Get what you want man, you only live once!

Forgot to mention, the prices are almost exactly the same (in Lite-On's favor).

Slot-load is no novelty. I've had my first slot loader for almost a year now and it is a convenience, not a novelty. I find the trays (like the one on my sony burner) a nuisance.

if i were to purchase a dvd-rom at the moment.
i'd get one that can read dvd-r, dvd-rw, dvd-ram.
most can read dvd-r, -rw. but not -ram.
so i'd probably get something that can read that.

forget about the whole slot loading or tray loading debate.
that's a very minor issue here.

look for functionality. compatibility issue counts more than esthetics in my opinion.

Newegg's prices for the two drives are nearly identical, 5 bucks isn't going to affect my decision. I just want quiet. This Sony DDU1211 is absolutely terrible - Nero CD Speed benchmarks it worse than drives twice it's age.

I'm advising you go with pioneer slot load, you won't be disappointed. Those people here who spoke against them don't own one, they are speaking off the top of their heads. I, however, own three and would not hesitate to buy another.

I have the liteon, and my friend has the pioneer slot-in DVD-ROM.

basically... both are good, except the liteon is slower when reading CDROMs (no big deal for me )

I bought the Liteon because of my budget problem, but i really think there are no big performance differences in them.

I have owned both and would have to say go for the pioneer. The lite-on actually ripped cd's faster (by about 2 seconds) but the pioneer just looks so much cooler!!! I do have some issues where my dvd's slow down after about 15min when the pioneer seems to slow down, but that is no prob to me. the main reason I recomend the pioneer is quaility. My lite-on broke within about 3 monthes, and while I do not think this is at all typical (all companies have a few lemons) there service was aweful and I could not get them to repair it. My pioneer has been good for about 6 monthes now and I just love the whole slot idea.

Again, it is totally your choice, but IMO the pioneer edges out on the lite-on, especially when they are about the same price

I like my pioneer (tray though, not slot) it is very quiet, but I have to say that it has to be the high temperature running CD device I have ever owned. Maybe the slot ones are cooler?
