All signs point to NOT HAPPENING. If MGS4 means that much to you, get a PS3.

Well there you go. I just thought since they have ported every metal gear game to other consoles that they would with this one. Probably a year or two after MGS4 is out they will come out with Metal Gear Solid 4: Subsisting or something like that.

Using Gamerankings.com is an invalid comparison.

If you guys would pay attention, you would see that GameRankings does not include PSN games, while it does include XBL games....go figure.

I emailed the editor of the web site, and he just replies with

"I don't currently track PSN / Wii virtual games at this time."

So....there ya go.

-----------------------------------------

As a general response to the OP - Think for yourself. Anyone asking "what should I get???" in posts needs to maybe think a bit more for themselves, especially considering you claim to have had both in the past. You're the best at making up your own mind

There's what, about 25 XBLA games on that list right now? So a ratio of 2.5:1 instead of 3:1. Anyway, I posted the lists to encourage him to look through and pick out the games that he'd actually like, not buy a system based on sheer numbers. I really don't care much about the ~120 games on that list that I don't own.

MGS3 was never ported.

If you get a PS3 with backward compatibility, there is:
Ace Combat 04
Ace Combat 5
Ace Combat Zero

And any PS3 should play:
Air Combat
Ace Combat 2
Ace Combat 3

If you're looking for something more current-gen, there is Blazing Angels 2, which is a WWII combat flying game.

I don't know of any Ace Combat game in development for PS3, but I wouldn't doubt there is one. If there is, it'd probably come out in a couple of years (unless they port Ace Combat 6, but I have a feeling Microsoft gave them some financial incentive to keep it exclusive).

True, I wasn't trying to personally attack you or anything, but just a general FYI to readers -- Using GameRankings comes with a big caveat.

Personally, I give a rat's butt about game quantity, though selection is nice of course.

I figure it this way,

as long as (Quality Game Selection) >= (Time/cash available to play), then I'm good to go

Right about now, I own 3x PSN games (High Velocity Bowling, Warhawk, PixelJunk Monsters), love all three, and have my hands full with them

Taking other system abilities into account (BluRay, built-in wireless, quiet operation, dependable), it wasn't too hard to give my brother-in-law my 360+stuff for his birthday.

If you want a platform for games (near exclusively for games), get the XboX360, if you want to get a platform for media (ie. having games take a back seat to movies and streamed video), you should get a PS3.

AC6 is coming out for PS3 later this year. It was a timed exclusive remember.

Calling All Cars is pretty cool too.

Yeah, the 360 definitely is loud, and that's something to consider. It's interesting - I was just playing GTA San Andreas the other day, and it was whisper quiet. I guess they probably limit the drive speed for Xbox games? I also noticed the load times were really long, which surprised me considering that the Xbox only had 64 MB of memory. There's a trade-off on the 360 - faster load times, but it's significantly louder. Doesn't bother me too much, I never even notice it when I'm in games, and I sit about 3 feet from my 360 (you can see my 360 in this picture, and I sit in the chair on the left but I have it pulled up to the desk in front of my computer). I don't need to worry about pissing off neighbors with the volume on my TV, so maybe I have it louder than most people? Or maybe I just tune out white noise. Without a doubt though, it's one loud mofo.

And it does have the reliability issues, which is why I bought mine at Costco so I wouldn't have to deal with Microsoft for the warranty.

And the Blu-ray is a nice feature on the PS3, especially since HD-DVD is dead now. Wireless isn't a big deal to me, as you can see I have my router on the desk there, a 5 port switch next to my PS3, another 5 port switch under the desk, and another 5 port switch out in the living room. :Q I have waaaaay too many ethernet devices for one house. But I can definitely understand that it'd be an important feature to people who don't want to run ethernet to their living room, so it's something the OP should consider. IIRC, the OP has a Mac Mini that he uses as a HTPC in his living room so he might have ethernet running to that, but I may be confusing him with someone else. Nowadays more and more living room electronics use ethernet. My TiVo uses ethernet, and I also have a slingbox and a HTPC.

I personally would go with the 360. One of the most popular games out right now, COD4, plays better on the 360 IMO. Xbox live is better then the PSN even though Sony's is free (for now). I have a stand-alone bluray player so that wasn't an issue for me. Rumors of a Xbox 360 Bluray drive shouldn't make it much of an issue either.

Does MSFT warranty used systems? The RROD worries me.

I'm selling my Wii + games and getting the MGS4 PS3 bundle in the summer. Don't really care for console FPS except for Call of Duty 4 (at this moment) and the PS3 exclusives coming out this year are more appealing to me than the 360 ones

Technically - no
In reality - yes

The warranty only covers the original owner, but they haven't been strict about that.

One reason not to buy used is that after RRoD the next biggest cause of failure is the DVD drive, and it costs $100 to get MS to replace it once the 1-year warranty is up (3-year is only for RRoD).

I almost bought a 360 when Rock Band came out...but it seems like a piece of junk. The partially extended warrentee doesn't really alleviate my concerns, since that will eventually run out as well...not to mention I don't feel like shipping it back to Microsoft every 6 months to a year.

PS3 doesn't really have any games I want to play besides rock band. And since I probably wouldn't use a console to much anyway it doesn't make a lot of sense.

I have both. I bought the PS3 as a BR player, and I'll eventually pick up some games for it. Right now the only game I own for the PS3 is super stardust HD. That game is so addicting it justifies the whole purchase price of the system (lol well... maybe). In either case, I buy games that are on both platforms for the 360 because I vastly prefer the 360 controller. However, there are plenty of 08 PS3 exclusives that I'm looking forward to playing!

Get whichever one you want... they both have plenty of games unless you are going to rip through a few per week.

So after some digging around and looking at what's currently available, I think i'm gonna go for a PS3.

Although I agree with many that the online PS3 component pales in comparison to the 360 (may change once home is released), I see quite a few PS3 games that are something I would be very interested (even the PSN games such as Pixeljunk Monsters, Stardust, etc). Combined with the BR Player, I think its the route I want to go.

Thanks all for your opinions!

I would highly recommend Pixel Junk Monsters. It is one of the most addicting games I have gotten on PSN and by far the best one.
