Can't download w/any browser

No matter which browser I use all downloads get deleted upon completion. I've taken to downloading anti-malware, anti-virus, anti-etc. software onto a flash drive and installing from there. All install with ease.
Windows update works. Browsing works. Searching works. Updating anti-virus, etc. software works.
What the heck is going on? IE 9 opens a window at the bottom of the browser saying whatever I downloaded had a virus and was deleted. Firefox just refreshes the download page. I can be downloading Adobe Reader or Sun Java or anything and nothing will save.

Please help.

BTW, it's running AVG Free, MBAM, Zone Alarm Free, etc.

I know sometimes if im DLing something AND I CLOSE THE BROWSER before its done,the same thing happens to me! (Sometimes)

It sounds like your temp files are being deleted and when a file is DLing,its being collected in a TEMP file..


This happens EVERYTIME you try and DL something?

Sounds like your firewall is stoppong your downloads.

Firewall is Zone Alarm Free.

try disabling your FW temporarily and try DL-ing something.

Alternatively I have seen an issue like this once or twice before where a piece of malware set up a proxy redirect. Check to see if you are now using any proxies.

You'll have to help me find where to look for this.

I'll do when I can. Machine is back at wife's job. Guess I'll drop in tomorrow.

this is a security issue in the internet connection settings:

1. Open IE
2. click Tools then select options
3. click on the security TAB
4. select the internet icon if not yet selected.
5. set the security level if the internet zone to medium
6. click apply, then ok

IIRC that's where it is already. I'll try to check again. Why would it happen to Firefox too?

You may have already tried it, but how about running a system restore to a point before this happened?

Planned on doing stuff today. Got sidetracked by having to fix the wife's car. Still not done with that.
