I built my first pc yesterday, so be kind.

athlon 64 3200 factory fan/heatsink
1 gig mushkin ram 512 *2 3200 400hz
plain antec case with 350 watt and 2 fans in case
ati 9800 pro 128 radeon
old vx900 gateway monitor
windows xp pro

I built the system yesterday and had a number of small issues and worked them out.
When the computer boots, it reads the ram speed at 200 mhz
The CPU speed was about 2200
I decided try try and clock the cpu to about 3200 and i am not sure which parameter I changed since the system will not allow me to get back into bios.
I believe I changes the multiply from 1 to 2*.

Now the system comes on, the fans come on and the computer slowly beeps ,one beeps at a time. The keyboard lights do not come on and I had set the bios to halt boot for keyboard failure.

The mobo is Kn8 neo by MSI.

Help me get back to the bios, get the clock speed to spec or maybe overclock a little, and is the ram speed correct?

Look in your manual for the jumper that resets the CMOS. All you have to do is set that on erase for a couple seconds (the othe pin and the middle pin usually. Then set it back to normal and it will boot with defaults loaded again......You have probably not hurt anything, just got a little too ambitious in your settings and it got you in trouble.

Wait a minute, are you telling me that you tried to overclock your Northwood which runs normally at 2.2Ghz to 3.2Ghz, if so....then you must be crazy, since that is not possible. Your multiplier should be at 10 or 11(if you have a northwood 512k cache, not 1 or 2.....)It only is displayed as such a low number when you turn off the AUTO funcion to Manual. You get no screen display right? What you have to do is press delete when you start up, and do everything from memory. Use your mobo handbook and look at the pictures. Use them to navigate to the setting which restores all defaults, and press Enter.

Some mobos don't have jumpers, especially AMD based ones. Simply flip the switch in the back of your case when your PC is running. That clears the Cmos for me.

thanks, the reset got me back to the bios screen.

How about the CPU speed , how do I get it to run at 3200?

Is the ram at 200 correct? I thought it was 400 ram?

I am new to this and don't really want to push the overclocking , I just wanted to build it myself and get the speeds to spec.

PC 3200 runs at 200MHz which is doubled by more double activity per clock cycle, so it's actuallly 400, but the BIOS will say 200 so leave that alone 200 is bloody fast ram. As for your CPU's clcok speed 3200+ is only a rating that means it's competitive with a 3200MHz intel chip. I believe you should slso run that at stock MHz speed to start with. 2200MHz is what your chip is meant to run at and a reasonable overclcok might be aaround 24-2600MHz But 3200 is way out.
