#1 Don't boot up a modern CPU without a heatsink, not for a few seconds, not even for one second. Most socket A CPUs will die INSTANTLY. Other CPUs may not die, but don't be the guinea pig.
#2 If a heatsink is stuck, twist it a bit to loosen it up.
#3 Since I'm switching around things so much, I use Arctic Alumina or even the cheap white goop because they wipe off so easy.
#4 Long beeps are RAM errors. If CPU was dead, motherboard would not beep. If motherboard beeps, CPU is okay. Somehow the motherboard isn't seeing the RAM properly. Maybe just reseating it, maybe RAM is dead, maybe something wrong with motherboard. Anyways, if it beeps the CPU isn't dead.
