I bought a Gigabyte 8IPE1000 Pro and I couldn't get into its bios setup at the power on screen for some reason. Any body know what could have caused something like this? At the POST it would detect the CPU, RAM and IDE drives, but every time I press the <DEL> key in attempt to enter the BIOS the internal speaker would give a clicking sound. I have no idea what that clicking sound mean. Plz help.
Here's a list of the items onboard at the time:
Pentium 4 2.8 GHz
PC-2700 DDR RAM (1x)
ATI Radeon 9500 Pro
Western Digital 80 GB Special edition hard drive
Samsung CD-RW

Thanks

is it a ps/2 keyboard you have? I bought a coolermaster USB keyboard and I couldn't enter the BIOS until I plugged in my old ps/2 keyboard and setup the BIOS to use a USB keyboard. If you don't have a USB keyboard then just do what Boonesmi said....

I tried both USB keyboard and PS/2 Keyboard (4 of them!) So the keyboard is probably not the cause. As for the CMOS, do you think its necessary to clear it if its a brand new motherboard?

Thanks for your help

Some of the gigabytes have a couple of contact points (like solder pads in a place where the jumper should be near the battery) just short the pads with a pair of needle nose pliers or a paper clip. Too damn cheap to put in a real jumper. Read your mobo manual to find out the recommended method. If you don't have a mobo manual, you can download one from www.giga-byte.com .

According to mobo manual, removing battery with power disconnected from the wall is the way to clear the CMOS.though I bet there is a pair of solder pads that would do it. Or you can DL CMOSTOOL.
