Can't install Anti-Virus Program(s)

I'm working on a friends computer. Shuttle MoBo, P233mmx CPU, 256mb RAM. Whenever I try to install any antivirus software, Norton 2000, Norton 2002, Norton 2003, Panda, McAfee, PC-cillin, the software either will stop during the first part of the install=shield, or, if it goes into the install, it will close the window during the installation, and stop the install. Also, I cannot run the online version of PC-cillin from the Trend Micro site. Any ideas on whats up ???

You may want to try updating the BIOS if you haven't already.

It maybe the Antivirus programs are detecting something it doesn't like in the BIOS.

I had this problem with a P2 333 with Norton 2k & 2k2 & Trend Online.

Certain virus strains (especially the new ones) will prevent AV software from installing
or even running on a system.

If there's a virus on the machine and you're using a Win9x OS, then your best bet is to get a dos anti-virus, like F-prot and then boot to dos, copy all the F-prot files and virus definitions over and then run it from there cause most of the new virii are windows based and prevent you from installing or cleaning when the files are active.
