I keep getting errors, its really annoying. I tried installing it, it almost broke my laptop due to a fatal error, and i managed to (barely) restore to an earlier date, and then i tried redownloading it, both through win update and through the standalone on MS's website, but no go. First i got a .dll missing error, downloaded that .dll, then im continuously getting an installer error.

Code C000007b

any ideas?

Thanks!

Yeah I'm pretty anal about updates so Ive done everything prior. Couldn't believe how close my stuff came to getting wrecked, it was about time though since everything had been going smoothy for a few years. reminded me to backup heh

I had no issues on two Win7/64 machines, but a number of developers in our group are reporting hung reboots and other errors.

Yeah! Damn fatal errors not letting me do anything or even boot into safe mode. Luckily, I thought, I had a really recent system restore. Yes! ...no. It failed to system restore because of some random error. However, due to divine intervention, when I rebooted it said system restored to xxxx date!

that is crazy! so far i have not had any errors upgrading, and i just installed it on a 2008R2 server today.
I usually try to make a backup of my pc before a major SP just in case.

Hi all, Im new here so go easy

I can neither install SP1 thru Updater nor by direct download in which I get an "Invalid Data" when trying to install.

I have a brand new hardrive and bought W7 64bit (Full) and just installed approx. 2 days ago.
While trying to use W.Update -I get a variety of errors with both SP1 and readiness tool.
Error codes:80073712; 80200053; 80070570

Next I tried directly downloading Sp1 (900mb file) multiple times as well as Readiness tool and when I try to run I get an "Invalid Data" Error message.

Have tried multiple times now. I also ran the Cmd "Scannow" command and it tells me that some files cant be fixed. I do have some CBS Log files (?) that are quite long from those scans -but I really dont understand them. I next ran the 4 hour long Chkdsk and nothing has changed.

In the Event Logs under Custom there are multiple Red flags but I dont understand.

I also tried a System Restore and got both a "Failed" and "Catastrophic Error" message...

Please help!!!

Edit: I also tried working with a Microsoft "techie" named "Dinesh", who scarily took remote control of my Desktop from God knows where and literally wasted an hour of my life with idiotic questions (actually tried to convince me I had stupidly installed an Update version of 7 instead of Full - how can I update a blank HD?!?)

I had an issue on machine. I called Microsfot support and they had me do the following: I unchecked all my msconfigf startups and non-Microsoft services in MSCONFIG and uninstalled my anti-virus software and it then worked and then I did those steps on a 2nd mcahine and it worked the first time. Afetr getting SP1 I then rechecked the boxes I unchecked in startup and services both under MSCONFIG.

Windows 7 SP1 is a no go for me! I have tried everything that I have found online. The MSCONFIG. Uninstalling Microsoft security essentials. I have tried Microsoft Fix it. The Readiness tool. Disabled my second HD. I tried in safe mode. This is the error I get....E_FAIL(0x80004005) I have tried through windows update, the download, and the ISO. I have run out of ideas! Any help out there? I can install other updates with no problem through windows update, and my copy is a legit version.

I don't know if this will help, but one thing that has emerged in talks with a couple of my colleagues who had errors, is that they were presented with several updates in addition to SP1, and elected to install them all at once. We all noticed that when the updates were presented the smaller ones were default checked, while the SP was unchecked. I installed the smaller updates first, rebooted, then installed SP1 and had no errors. The guys I have talked to installed all the updates at once, and had errors. For what it's worth.

That's a great point. The smaller updates are prerequisites to install SP1.

One of my team members backed out of SP1 and reinstalled by installing the prereq updates first, and then installing the SP, however this didn't help. He still ran into blackscreen issues and problems with explorer and launching apps after the install, and was forced to back out again. We're not sure at this point whether installing the pre-reqs first doesn't alter the problem, or whether having had a failure to begin with has left his system porked.

I feel like theres no way out of this besides a reinstall. .dll error here, fix, .exe error there, etc. I've gotta do one anyway but I hope not for other people.

I finally had to roll back my comp to a few months earlier in order to get it to install. Seems like the service pack needs a service pack for the service pack. Finally.......

i had alot of issues just downloading it on the first day so i just grabbed the technet/msdn dvd (2gb) and used that.

honestly with all the time - the new discs are all out with the slipstream SP1 on every flavor of every o/s so its easier to burn those to use.
