Hi folks!

I just can't install Win XP Pro into my system. I have a RAID-0 setup on my ASUS A7V133 built-in RAID controller (Promise "Fastrak 100"). I have the latest drivers for the RAID controller (those at the German ASUS site www.asuscom.de) on a diskette, and when the WinXP installation program starts I press F6, provide the driver for the RAID controlled (WinXP Fastrak 100 - Lite Controller) and press ENTER to go on.

The point is that after this the installation program says that "Install found no hard disk to install WinXP. Installation can not be continued" and I'm forced out of the install program. If I boot form a Win 98 SE boot disk, copy the installation files of the CD into the RAID-0 setup and then install, at the point where i was told that there were no hard drives I get the following message " Either you have no hard disk present, or it isn't properly configured, or it isn't closed. Please check your HDD" and again I'm forced out of the installation program.

This never happened when I installed Win 98 SE from the CD on the same RAID-0 setup.

Which drivers should I use?? form where? Any BIOS version works best to intall Win XP?? I currently have the 1007 FINAL BIOS.....

Thanks for your help!

why not install it on a non-raid connector? then switch over to the raid connector after its working.

The thing is that on the RAID-0 connector I have 2 HDD working as one (i.e. RAID-0) and I have lots of info on some partitions I don't want to lose.

Because of how the RAID-0 works, If I connect the HDDs to any other IDE port, I will lose all the data I have!!!

Any other ideas??

Some installs can be a real pain on a raid setup while using the raid controller. Not sure what to suggest.

Perhaps a spare hard drive to use for temp backup during the install?

hey i have this board workin in raid with xp...

I tried to install staright from xp and ran into some minor issues.

What i did was:

USe the raid drivers for win setup from the cd-rom that came with yer board. These are the only ones that seemed to work ok fer me. Put em on a floppy.

also I 1st installed win2k got it up and runnin made sure it plug and played my raid controller, then upgraded to XP.

Also... make sure that in BOIS settings that yer second boot device after CDROM is your scsi or other device. This will include the onboard raid even thought its not listed.

hope this helps

You mean the Win 2000 drivers that came with the CD of the MoBo, right?

DO NOT USE THE LATEST DRIVERS!

I've done this. Install with the floppy the controller came with and update the drivers after installing WinXP.

One other thing with that card/chip is set your drives down to DMA3 mode to install.

Hope that helps.

OK Guys, now I have a MAJOR PROBLEM!!!!!

I finally succeded to get XP installation to recognize my RAID-0 rig. I left the installing XP, went out of the room, but when I came back the screen had gone blank, nothing showed up on the screen after touching several keys, Ctrl-Alt-Del wouldn't work, Hard Reset (using the case's RESET button) wouldn't work either.

I noticed that my cases MESSAGE led was blinking. I pushed the POWER button for 15 seconds and then the LEDs stopped blinking. THE PROBLEM IS THAT NOW THE COMPUTER REFUSES TO TURN ON AGAIN!!!!!

I've tried to clear the CMOS, but it still won't boot. The LED inside the A7V133 is lit when I plug in the power, and goes off when unplugging the power. PLEASE HELP A DESPERATE MAN!!!!!

HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP!!!!!

Will it even POST? What else had you been doing inside the case recently (is cpu fan still seated correctly)? Does CPU fan come on when you hit the power button? Any beep codes? Try pulling all cards (except video), HDD, CD, zip, etc..and see what happens.

No, No POST, no fans working, no beeps after taking the DIMMs out, nothing except the inside POWER LED (the one on the MoBo), really, nothing at all!!!!! Any ideas?? PS: I HOPE that it is the power switch that went wrong....NOT!!!!

Still wierd, 'cuz the LED inside the MoBo is still on??

Well, I guess there's nothing to lose in trying out..

Phew!

Tried another PSU and the PC came back to life!!!!

I opened my PSU and found nothing rong about it at the first glance, but who knows... The fuse looked OK though, but definetly its the PSU.

Well, better to spend 15 bucks on a new PSU than spending 100 bucks on a new processor!!!

Cheers!!!

Hi there!!

I'm back again and kickin' alright!!

The drivers you sent me worked like a charm, thanks!!!

I only have three problems (well, two problems and one question):

1) I installed XP with the Win2000 drivers form the ASUS CD and latter upgraded to the latest PROMISE drivers found on the German ASUS site which support XP. However, each time I boot I get the following message:

Promise Filter Driver
Promise Technology

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Issue Description:

The installed version of the Promise filter driver is incompatible with Windows XP. Your disk drives will function under Windows XP with basic functionality. To preserve system stability, the full functionality filter driver is not loaded. Download the latest Windows XP-compatible filter device driver from the Technical Support section of the Promise Technology Web site.

Any ideas? any Clues? It doesn't seem to cause any problems anyways.....

2) Why are all of my devices (Sound card, video Card, Promise Controller) sharing 1 IRQ (IRQ9, the same as the ACPI controller)????

i have plenty of IRQ free and upon boot-up the BIOS shows that each card has its own IRQ (on the Boot-up screen I have Video Card=IRQ11, Promise Controller=IRQ3 and Sound Card=IRQ7), and on Win 98 SE each devices holds its own IRQ (the same shown at the Boot-up screeen)

Any ideas??

3) I saw a Win XP tweaking and tune-up guide on the forums some time ago, any one know how to reach it???

THANKS!!!!
