Can't Open my USB Drive (Pocket/Thumb) Anymore

Hi,
Been using my USB (Pocket/Thumb) drive at work a lot, and a few days ago, when I plugged it back in my computer, I got a virus (trojan) alert from AVG.

Can't find much information on the virus, but tried to clean it with AVG. Not sure if it's really helped, but now I can't double click my drive to open it. Instead, the unrecognized file format prompt will pop up to ask what program I want to use to open the drive.

I can always cancel, right click on the drive, and choose open, but I wanted to know why this was happening and how I could replace the files that were affected by the virus.

1) what was the name of the virus that AVG detected? Look in AVG's logs and virus vault for the precise name and post what it was.

2) once you find out what the virus was, report it to your computer person at work so they know they've got a virus problem.

3) try opening a command-prompt window (Start > Run > cmd), switch to the drive letter of the USB drive by typing E: or whatever drive letter it is, then use the command dir to try to list the contents. Any good?

Hi mechBgon,
Thanks for the help. I can access the drive still, just can't use the normal double click and go inside. Now I have to right click/open to access it. The CMD instruction works.

Affected files:
f:\infrom.exe
f:\rm\sy.exe
f:\ms.config\id.exe
f:\ms.config\idup.exe

Each are affected by trojan horse "Generic2." dyv/dgm/dif/dvg

I've tried to clean these several times over the last days, but it still keeps popping up. When I did a google search for Generic2, I found references to Adware, so I did a sacan with Ad-aware, which didn't detect anything.

That's interesting. How about uploading those files into the VirusTotal analyzer at http://www.virustotal.com, and take screenshots of the analyses and post them. You might also want to uninstall AVG and install the free AOL Kaspersky, go through the Settings and max them out, and then run a scan with that. Kaspersky > AVG.
