Can't play BF1942 anymore...

First to be clear, I own BF, road to rome...and was planning to get secret weapons till this crap came up, now I'm not sure.
Apparently 1.45 patch changed how CD checks work.
(I do full installs on all my games so CD checks on all of them are annoying enough already.)
From what I've read online how it's supposed to work is it checks at game start, and each time you load a map.....if map is from RTR you need that CD, If it's an original map you need BF cd.
Well that would be annoying enough, but I can't even get game to start....either it says insert correct CD, or just the splash screen comes up, then program terminates I guess...because nothing happens.

I just reinstalled windows for different reasons....it does the same thing before and after that.

any help/ideas appreciated.

Which patch did you use to update? If you used the incremental and didn't use the full 1.45 try downloading that and installing it. There was a thread a few days ago about BF1942 and version 1.45, I have had similar issues, but I have managed to get into games at random and haven't had crashes.

Used the 107mb or whatever patch...which is full one I think

i know this is probably not what you want to hear, but i downloaded alcohol 52% and made virtual drives of all three cds (bf42-1, rtr, sw) and now i have no issues. not everyone wants to run 3 virtual drives, or even 2, or even 1, but it keeps me from having any cd issues. can you start an rtr game with the rtr cd in there?

Tate's suggestion made me able to actually run the game again.

I think I will probally Also get program Fisher suggested....I have 160gb main drive and am tired of CD swapping for all my games.

I haven't played 1942 on my network since I got sick of moving the Cd around (about 8 months now), at least CS & BHD don't have that issue , I just bought the WW3 Cd and noticed 1942 won't run on any of my systems anymore anyway, I'm more afraid of screwing up all my systems with this crappy game. It crashes on vesion 1.25, 1.31 with no CD or with CD , 1.45 won't play multiplayer (maybe a linksys router issue). actually the 1.31 no cd file did seem to allow 1.45 to play (or did it crash ?) I'll have to try this on a system later in the week (on one I have to redo anyway) , anyone know how I can set my linksys 2.4ghz wireless router to allow internet gameplay with me as the server? seems my friends can never find (or connect to)my CS or BHD maps when I start an internet game, or CS or nove world. perhaps I should dom a search or post another thread.

That would suck if a server had a rotation between the expansions on..

If you don't mind using 1.7GB of HD space you can keep from having to switch CDs.

You can mount CD images to act as CD drives using this program Virtual Daemon

CD images can be made using this program DDump

Both are free.

I had the same problem. I own BF1942 and Road to Rome. I had originally installed the the NO CD patch so I wouldn't have to keep the CD's in to play. But now, I have formatted my drives twice since originally buying the game, they will not work unless I run the NO CD patch. If I don't have the patch, it will pop up a window claiming to put correct CD in to start game. I do have the correct CD in. I will have to try "Tates" idea next time I format or update with a new patch to see if it works for me.
