When i type in the IP address, it doesn't take me to the config page of my Linksys BEFSR41. It does this sometimes and it's really annoying. It just does nothing and eventually times out. I really need to open up some ports now, but it's acting up again. How should i fix it? Tried restarting the router already.

Verify that your pc has an ip address in the same subnet as that of the router, and also verify that there's no other device (pc, printer, etc.) on the network which has the same ip address as either your pc or your router. Can you ping the router? If you disconnect all other devices from the router besides your pc, can you then ping the router and access its webpage?

Linksys routers default with 192.168.1.1 for the internal gateway ip address. This is also the ip that you use to get to the web interface for the router. Agree with Astaroth33 that you need to ping the ip address for your router/gateway and see whats going on. Worse case is that you can unplug and reset to factory default and start over with the Linksys machines. I personally change the default internal network to something else. Hope this helped some.

Linksys just released yet a nother new firmware for this unit.
Version 1.43 i believe, I upgraded last night, seems to be going well so far. Though they still have not fixed the NAT to NAT ftp issue.

Alright guys, i'm a complete newbie when it comes to networking, so you're gonna have to spell this out for me. What exactly am i supposed to do here? The IP of my router is 193.168.1.1. I pinged it and it's responding. This computer's internal IP is 193.168.1.100, the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 and the default gateway is 193.168.1.1. There is also another computer connected to the router, and it's internal IP is obviously 193.168.1.101.

not sure if this will help, but ....
isn't the local address usually 192.168.x.x instead of 193.168.x.x?

(another networking newbie)

another way to fix it would be resetting the router, see if it boots up and accessible later?

yes, standard is 192.168.x.x but it really doesn't matter for an internal network. Default for the Linksys boxes are 192.168.1.1 afaik. Probably the best scenario is for Tiberius to unplug & reset the router. Connect to it via DHCP and then go to http://192.168.1.1 and start from scratch.

I believe the linksys router assigns IPs via DHCP in the form 192.168.1.xxx. The only option to change is the .xxx starting number.

Try this link to connect to the router

Back when i got my router, i was messing around with it's settings (bad idea, i know) and changed the IP to 193 instead of 192. No biggie, it works fine, and i've been able to access the config page after doing that. I also just updated the firmware and powercycled a few times - nothing changed. What do i do? I think it may have something to do with my system configuration, as i recently bought a new hard disk and started over, and haven't been able to access the page after that. However, i haven't tried accessing it for at least a month before getting the new hard disk, so i can't tell if it worked right before either.

Well, there is a reset switch on the back (hold in with the tip of a pen for a few seconds) That will take you back to all the factory default settings for the router. Then try pinging the router at 192.168.1.1. Again like the others said, make sure there are no other devices on the network when you do this.

Pressed the reset button. Red lights went on, then green lights came back. Turned on the PC and nothing changed. The internal IP still starts with a 193 and not a 192, so it didn't reset anything - i don't know why! Needless to say, i still can't access the config. Can anyone help me?

Also tried resetting the way it's described in the manual - unplug, press the button, plug back in, let go the button. Still nothing.

Do you use a proxy server to connect to the internet?
If yes, you should change your browser settings so that your browser does not contact the proxy server for internal IP-addresses.

Hope it helps...
