Can't "See" Slave Drive

I recently installed a brand new HDD and installed XP Pro on it. My old HDD was a WD 20GB with W2K Pro on it. I don't really care about the info that's on the old drive other than all my bookmarks/address book but I WOULD like to export that info onto the new HDD and also use the old drive as a slave, simply for backup purposes. I just jumped the old HDD as a slave and connected the cable. Booted up but my computer is not recognizing the old HDD at all.

As far as I know, the new (Primary) HDD is not jumped at all and I'm not having any problems at all seeing that drive and the partitions I created. But the old (Slave) drive is nonexistent when I click on "My Computer" or if I go into the Admin Tools and look for it.

Any idea on how to get this drive to become visible/accessible?

Thanks

What brand is the master? WD has 2 master settings one for master without a slave (no jumper) and another for master with a slave.

It sounds like you have the Primary jumpered as if it were a single drive. See if there is a jumper setting for master with a slave.

EDIT: Lawranch beat me to it!

The master is a new (but OEM) WD800JB and the old one is just a WD 20GB (about as basic as it gets).

I didn't mess with any jumper settings on the new HDD because when I installed it, I hadn't planned on using the older drive as a slave.

Since it's OEM, I don't have a manual but should the new HDD be marked to show proper jumping for "Primary WITH Slave"?

Edited to note that I found the jumper setting diagrams on WD's website. I'm almost certain that there are NO jumpers installed on my drive which would mean it's in single HDD mode, with no allowance for a slave. Gonna yank it out and jump it for "Dual (Master)" and see if that takes care of it.

If you just wnna use it temporarily just master it, disconnect the master on the other channel (your CDROM likely) and connect it. It doesn't even need to be screwed in.
