Can't stand modern FPS game but love FPS?

I love FPS as much as the next person back when FPS games used to be good.

Games like Battlefield 1942, Battlefield 2, Delta Force Series, Joint Operation, Socom series (console), Tribe series, Unreal Series, Halo series, Doom series, etc....

Nowadays if I want my fps fix I have to bother with COD and modern Battlefield games that absolutely suck in my opinion. Not only do I not want to play with them, I can't even enjoy watching other play them. They are both so boring to play and watch and they are the only option us PC gamers have at the moment and probably into the future unless Activision and EA go out of business (finger cross).

How do I get my FPS fix now? Only game that remotely look interesting is BattleFront and even then so many contents is cut out of the game.

Anyone else feel like me, are hardcore teamwork centric classic gamer like myself a thing of the past? I don't care about L337 pwn all of you noob gun ho care only about myself and my score gamer mentality. I don't care about camping and calling in bombs due to multiple camping kill. I want a game that require team work to be successful, where each teammate look out for each other and everyone work as a team with a planned strategy.

Is this too much to ask for? Will we get such game in the modern era? Why does COD and BF still exist, both of those game absolutely suck. The ruin an entire generation of gamer.

There's Squad coming up (from the makers of Project Reality Battlefield 2 mod) and ArmA 3. Squad is between Battlefield and ArmA though, and ArmA is simulation. Requires teamwork but a lot of things to deal with like restrictive stamina.

What you want sounds like you just need to find some good gaming buddies. Good multiplayer FPS games are usually a blast when you and the rest of your team knows how to play and communicate.

Hardcore teamwork is more centric than it has ever been. Ever play Titanfall with a good team? Fantastic. When you play with randoms, the gaming experience drops off a cliff. Every gaming platform I know has players who enjoy teamwork, and those who are off their face on whatever drug they are on/ little kids; really hard to tell the difference at times.

Have play CSGO over 2 years now and pretty high rank but that game is full of hackers and it not quite the same as other fps.

Its F2P but keep reading its not set up to completely suck your wallet.
BF2 pace to combat, limited stamina, no healing other than supply boxes, limited ammo, combined forces. Armor needs infantry to support it, air needs infantry to capture points.

Again I know its F2P which I have stated usually means no go but this one isn't bad.

Have you considered Arma 3? There are a lot of servers where teamwork is the only way you survive let alone thrive.

I myself loved the Operation Flashpoint, Delta Force, Joint Ops, UT, Early Battlefield Games etc games for the way they brought people together to work as a unit.

they have wimped them out, regen health, do all classes, etc.. There is no doubt good teamwork can own in new games, but nobody does it. The games he mentioned are almost polar opposites, if you DONT work together you get slammed, while in new games teamwork can shine, they can pretty much be played with any classes and still do ok. Generic classes becuase the net has became a whine fest, AWWW my medic cant go toe to toe with a Grunt, beef him up!. BF42, the Medic blew if was against a solider, the heavy also was worthless unless against Armour. Oh you could win if you got the drop or where lucky, but it was rare, I play today's games and can kill most anybody with anybody on a fairly consistent pace, Now the default weapons are not a play style as the "extra" loadout makes everybody close to the same.

In some ways its ok to even the playfield, it will make more people play as they can live longer, but some of us prefer the team originated gameplay that was almost required in the past, BF42 is still in my opinion the best TEAM game made.. 2-3 tanks roll in.. you had to have bazookas, so if 75% of the team kept playing soldier, you where fooked.. now everybody has a c-4, dynamite, etc.. Heck even Bf42 was gimped up by the end of its lifespan.. I remember getting good at taking planes down with a tank (ya, i agree, not realistic) by the end, 3-4 tanks shots wouldn't take a plane down. This was to stall the griefers from shooting planes on the ground if teammates beat them to them.. but sucked for those who mastered aiming.


ah well, times change. games are still fun, its just a different type of fun i guess.

Well why stop playing a game you like , bf1942 is just as awesome as in beginning . But you need a patch to play on-line today because game spy pulled the plug and it is now only supported by bf1942 community .

No one plays it anymore and it severely outdated. Last time I visited a BF2 server, there were like 2 server running.

I think the only game that has the old school vibe now that i might like is Rainbow Six Siege though it still a linear fps.

Unreal Tournament has a new version in development which is free to play, you can download the alpha of that now and give feedback.

BF2 is still running but gamespy shut the master server support down, the community has provided new master servers and tools for those who want to continue to play. If you're not a big fan of BF3/BF4/Hardline I actually highly recommend you try out Battlefield Bad Company 2 on the PC, this was a real Gem for its day and played a lot more like a natural evolution of the older battlefield games.

Someone already mentioned Heroes and Generals and this actually quite closely mirrors BF1942 from back in the day, it's free and quite good, not really P2W as you can get all the things you need at a reasonable pace.

There are not many players left for bf1942 but when i try to connect on this time to favorite server it say , can not connect server full . That is 64 players with players from a lot of countries so it is very international . It is the players that make the game .There are no cheaters or hackers , they wil be kicked and banned . Outdated could be but i do not need high end vga or pc for the game , R7 240 can play in high resolution.

Teamwork is the good in bf1942 , if tank need repair the engineer will come and medic if healing is needed . Played a lot bf 2 and also very good , but bf1942 has a high fun factor with ships , submarines and planes:|

May have to look into it, I do mis BF42 but even I know I may see it with rose colored glasses.. but new games are just so, easy it seems.. I know the world loves HALO but it seemed like the first step in the wrong direction to me.. regen health is really a ugly thing. it Encourages hiding, not careful play IMHO. Just duck and wait, shoot a couple time, duck and wait. I will admit health packs laying around is silly, but having limited health and being responsible for it makes you play better, again only in my opinion. And the 2 gun loadout Halo started.. 12 guns in your back pack is again silly, but it was about managing ammo, not the guns.

ah well, L4D2 on advanced or expert is still a TEAM game and punishes those who dont.
