I just installed XP and I can't get the modem to stop dialing. I have changed the settings

on the IE connections tab to manually dial but it just keeps going. Can anyone please help.

Oh! The off button does do the trick . Thanks in advance. Ron

Does the dialing window indicate that it's trying to reply to anyone in particular?
I'm working through a worm/virus and my modem would constantly dial after I had been online and then logged off.

I just had a customer with the same problem. All his settings are set to "never dial a connection", but the damn thing just dials over and over, no matter what he's doing. Anyone know how to fix this?

right click on my network places and click properties. click the advanced tab and dial-up preferences. uncheck the modem connection from the auto-dial crap. windows should stop dialing after that. good luck.

Thanks. I saw this too, haven't tried it yet. Hopefully that'll do it

The my places solution sounds good. I suspected the autodialing might be caused by my second, networked PC. Since I posted this problem a week ago, the problem is less frequent but still dials, at times like it has a mind of it's own.

I tried the above fix - My Network Places. But I am unable to follow your instructions. I have home XP - if that might make a difference. When I select Properties, I have no "advance tab". I have two tabs - General and shortcut. Both have Advance buttons but neither of these has any options about dialing.

Any thoughts? Thanks again. Ron

Different OS, and probably nothing to do with your situation, but a friend's 98 box I was working on this week did the same thing on me. Fairly sure it was Realplayer trying to update because when I deleted it from the start up, the problem stopped.

I have always hated Realplayer.

Could there be a program trying to auto update on you?
