I am looking at upgrading to a Canterwood mobo with a 2.8-800 when they are available.
I want to know which would be better for the best performance:
2 sticks of 512k of PC3500 or
4 sticks of 256k of PC3500 ?

I have considered that the 2 sticks of 512MB would leave more room for expansion, but I would like to know if there is any difference in performance.

Canterwood will be Dual channel DDR, not Quad channel. So there will not be any gains using 4 sticks instead of 2,using 4 might even make things harder to overclock.

I personally think one gig of ram is overkill. All you need is 2/256 sticks.Thats unless your doing some crazy stuff on your PC.

I don't think he thought it was quad channel with the RAM, but isn't one stick of 512MB preferable over two sticks of 256MB (and likewise two 512MB's instead of four 256MB's)? In addition, isn't it generally harder to get aggressive memory timings the more DIMMs you're working with? I'm not sure on performance differences... but I remember reading about aggressive timings with more DIMMs being harder.

This is a dual channel motherboard so you want to run 2 sticks.Yes one stick ocverclocks better from my experience and from what I have read.

Actually, if you put a DVD burner in there and want to do any kind of mix/match video stuff, a gig of RAM will give you a HUGE performance benifit.
