Canterwood question!

Can these boards run a 533Mhz CPu and still take advantage of the dual channel DDR400? Is it necessary that I upgrade my CPU to an 800Mhz FSB version at the same time?

What I have is this...

845PE with 2 sticks Corsair XMS3200 512MB (1GB total)

2.26Ghz Northwood that clocke up to 2,6 easily enough and that's where I keep it.

Since the CPU runs 533Mhz FSb I know it won't do 3.4 Ghz that would be required to get to 800Mhz FSB. Can I run 533Mhz FSb and the memory still dual DDR400?

I'm really looking at the Abit IC7-G even though it's a pricey mobo I think I can sell my current mobo and defray some of the cost.

You can still run dual channel DDR with a 533 FSB.

You can still run Dual channel, but you only get a 4:5 ratio, so you need to be able to OC to DDR400.

As for upgrading, you might want to consider the IC7. Its cheaper and only lacks the Gigabit LAN onbaord, and the extra SATA RAID (that is tied through the PCI bus anyways). Still has PAT, ICHR5.

And what do you mean only 4:5 ratio?

does this mean at stock I'll be running DDR 333? So I'll need to get 155Mhz FSB to get DDR400?


as for the install. Going from an older Intel board to the canterwood will not require an OS reinstall will it?

Boot from the XP cd.

i belive you can't run ddr400 unless you have a P4"C" chip. i could be wrong but i don't think it will be stable.

well, run DDR 400 with my 845PE, but I'm unfamiliar with the new mobo. I think I've decided to wait for less expensive 800Mhz FSB P4s because right now they're a bit too spendy.
