googled the first lady, seems her father is pastor in Hong Kong. Dunno if she grew up there, but if she did it wouldn't be surprising at all.

The first and third ones have no accent (and are quite fine, imo ). The second one does, but still very fluent.

2 of my sisters have perfect English and they were born in Vietnam. One sis is an English teacher in Canada, and the other is an English teacher in Japan.

There is nothing amazing about a Caucasian that speaks perfect Cantonese, because many were born in Hong Kong or lived there since their youth.

Dalena is a Caucasian American that live in the US, and she sings Vietnamese songs with absolutely perfect North/Central/South Vietnamese dialect/accents. The wild thing is that she hasn't been to Vietnam and doesn't know how to speak Vietnamese.

I don't see why everyone gets so excited about white people speaking other languages, especially when they were born oversea... at the same time, if a non-white person doesn't speak great English, they get made fun of here in the states.

LOL, Mandarin sound better than most Chinese dialect, and to me Cantonese/Teochew sound like people having a shouting match.

Armenians sound much the same way. Although I think it's as much their culture as the language.

Here's what I think.

Mandarin => Taiwanese => Cantonese => Vietnamese.

You add more and more tones to each and each set of tones get more and more similar to Vietnamese.

I have Cantonese friends who make fun of Vietnamese people, and sometimes I want to just yell at them for being racist. They immitate Vietnamese and laugh at how the language sounds so harsh, but honestly, I think Cantonese is loud and harsh sounding too. Please. I'm Taiwanese. I know that when we speak as a family it's not the prettiest sounding language too, but definitely not as bad as Cantonese. Hell, since when was Chinese even a clean sounding language? Just check out any Chinese restaurant.

Sure you it wasn't 2 or more vietnamese talking to each other? Seems to me when you get 2 or more asian people together everyone starts shouting like its the supermarket.
