Having this issues and the symptoms is weird. Unit is 1.5 yrs old self DIY.
Symptoms:
1. Desktop freeze as soon as it finish load.
2. Hdd light busy/solid all the time.
Did..on same machine
1. Create new profiles..still freezes
2. Remove all hardware and resit all of it. Still freezes
3. Launch into safe mode, it work fine until start copying data, it freezes again.
4. Scanned for bad sector, no bad sector found.
Did..on other machine
1. Move the hdd here to test. Loading to desktop is ok and no solid light detected. Working perfectly fine. Data copy no issues (windows 7 unit)
2. Turn it into external hdd for data transfer, it hung half way data copy.
3. There is scratching sound while data copying. Is not that loud though.
Look into mobo and found one bulge capacitor. Would that be the caused?
