Well there is a major investigation now on the recklessness of the Capital police:

I thought this poster on that news article summed it up best and I quote:
"I am a 25 year military veteran, a strong law and order person, and as conservative as it gets on these reader blogs. But this was NOT law enforcement's finest hour. No city PD would last a week if its officers gunned down citizens and started spraying city streets with bullets just because someone was driving recklessly and crashing into traffic pylons.
The woman hit traffic barriers a block away from the White House and a couple away from the Capitol. No President or legislator was ever threatened or in danger, Then, when her car was immobilized on a median, they shot her dead. This shows an out of control, paramilitary mindset by those whose primary responsibility is protection of govt elites, not public safety. Note that this action was NOT taken by DC's Metro Police, but by Capitol Police and Secret Service.
This is the key takeaway from this incident: An out of control federal security force protecting govt elites at the expense of public safety. Just as they give themselves special treatment for things like Obamacare, they put their safety ahead of all others.
If this type of over-reaction is allowed to continue, how long will it be before demonstrators are gunned down in order to "protect" our legislators? Right or left, surely no one wants to go there"
