Hello everyone,
Gosh but I have been living with this for some time now, but I am pretty sure something must be wrong...and I'd like to try and fix it. I have a Telus DSL provider coming into my home and routing through a DLINK DI 624 Xtreme G2.04Ghz wireless router to my pretty fine computer. The PC that I use is a direct cable from the router to the PC not wireless. My provider states that I should be good for 3.4 MB/sec...and I can only ever reach 160k/sec. If I download a single file that is what I get, if it's multiple files at one time they will always add up to 160k...if I find a download that is faster it quickly sets itself to 160k.

I must have it capped somewhere...but I do not have a clue where to look. I have looked at my Router settings and nowhere does it talk about download performance. I cannot find anything in my network settings...Does anyone have any thoughts on this????
Thanks
Niall

Most likely your provider is providing 3.4mb as in megabit per second, not megabyte as you are stating. Your transfer in IE is showing in KB or kilobytes, not kb, kilobits. That said, you are a little low but they usually dont gurantee that speed, they use BS terms like "up to"

There is 8-bits in a Byte. So your 160k D/L equals 1.28 Mbits per sec. Which is a little low if you are supposeed to get 3.4 Mbits/s. Is there anyway to eliminate the router and get direct connection from the DSL to your PC? What do you get when you do a speed test?

Have you ever changed TCP/IP settings? Maybe with something like a "latency tool?"

If yes, undo this.

If the DSL providor is giving you a 3mb DSL line, which is the most common speed, you should be seeing something like 300-350k/sec downloads. This is assuming that your line is clean. Your DSL providor can run tests and tell you exactly how your line is provisioned (which may be different than stated speeds due to link quality).
