- Star Trek did suffer from the same issue as capt america and was definitely a worse movie for it. Nevetheless, Nero managed to wipe out a federation fleet and destroy vulcan. While Nero was underutilized, they clearly and unambiguously demonstrated why he was a threat and has to be stopped. Nero was also presented as a somewhat tragic character, having lost his family.
Nero was certainly a weak villian but he was still in a different class than skull, who was not only an empty suit but failed to even provide a requisite level of comic book villany his character.
Thats what I think about the star trek movie, which I liked much more than capt america but still thought fell short of its overall potential. Hopefully Abrams will learn feom his mistake next time around and make a bettet movie.
I can see how Red Skull was more of a "bad guy on paper" than Nero. With the exception of the beginning, all you really see in the movie is the outcome of stuff that he does.
But to me, what I like in my superhero movies are typically endearing traits in the heroes. That's why I liked Green Lantern more than others may have... once he stopped whining and manned up, he had a more endearing personality.
I very much disagree. X-Men: First Class was the best of the superhero films this summer as far as I'm concerned.

I've never really understood what people saw in that movie. I didn't think it was a bad movie, but for it to receive as much praise as it does makes me wonder if I accidentally went into the wrong theater and saw the wrong movie. I've talked about this in another thread, but the biggest problem was the inclusion of the "red shirt mutants." The script simply did a poor job of making us actually care about their plight as mutants or engineering them as characters that we find endearing. The movie only had a few good moments in it, and most of the action was very sub-par.
I actually almost laughed out loud at the absurdity of the "nein!" scene at the beginning... it was just carried on so long that it reminded me of Anakin's "NOOOOOOOO!!" in Star Wars: Episode 3. As an amusing aside, the meme-ization of the phrase "DO NOT WANT" actually came from a Chinese dub of Star Wars: Episode 3 that also had English subtitles in which during that "NOOOOOO!!" scene, it was translated as "DO NOT WANT!!"
Anyway, I actually had rather high hopes for the movie and was rather let down. I thought a few scenes could have been handled better... maybe even added some more drama into it to spice up the action.
