Buy power inverter rated for at least the total wattage on your AC adapter. Plug power inverter into cigarette lighter, plug laptop into power inverter. Much better than DC adapter IMO, because the inverter can power anything.
The Targus auto-air adapter is a better option for most travelers because it not only takes care of the auto connection, but also standard IATA outlets used by the airlines. Dell should have one of their own auto-air adapters - HP does. That's what I always travel with. Inverters are very limited in their use - auto only. But - they are cheaper.
