Hey folks!

I'm going to a car auction tomorrow (in California), and I was wondering a few things.

-Do you need a driver's license to register a vehicle in your name?
-How much do cars go for and what are the odds of me driving away in a decent car for $1,500?

Please share your car auction experiences.... Tomorrow is my first time, and I want to know what to expect. Thanks!!!

I recently bought a used police car at an auction. It was strange circumstances under which I got a really good deal. It's a 94 crown vic, but it only had 7000 mi on it when we bought it... only the auction people wrote 100,000... which means that I got it for $3,000. REALLY good deal for such a good car. Will last me another 200,000 miles and has coolness to boot. Anyway, depending on what kind of car you are after, look out for Taxi people. They will stop at nothing to buy your car. In my experiences, most cars go for between $1000-$3000, depending on condition/mileage/other bidders. The only way yo really find out is to go to a few auctions and see how they go.

Pretty good if you know what you are doing. If it is your first auction, do not buy or bid on ANYTHING!! Even if you see something that no one else is bidding on and is going to go cheap. There is usually a reason, you just missed it. Make sure to check the cars over in the period before the auction, and bring a blue / black book so you can see what prices should be. Look at the vehics you would be interesed in buying, and write down their lot #'s and the max you would pay for said vehic before you even concider bidding. Then it will be harder for you to get carried away when bidding and go higher than you wanted ot.

Again, if it is your first time, just go to see how it is done. do not actually bod on anything. Unlike E-bay you can not step out after you bid. It is yours weither you want it or not. No second chances.
