Car audio question (amp)

Right now I currently have a Jensen XA4150. It can be run at 75x4 or 200x2. I also have a JBL p-1000 sub. This is all I have room for in my 99gt mustang convertable. Can I take both of the 200 watt channels and hook them up to the JBL so i'de have close to 400 watts? The JBL is a 5-ohm sub btw.

No, you can't simply take the 2x200 channels and hook it up to the speaker... unless your amp supports 4 channel bridging, but I highly doubt it. Also, make sure your amp support the 5-ohm impedance.

Generally an amp cannot use all four channels to power one speaker.

If you have a dual voice-coil woofer then you could put 2 bridged amp channels to one woofer input and then put the other two bridged amp channels to the other input on the woofer.

Make sure your woofer IS dual voice-coil before you do this, as some people see two sets of connections on woofers and automatically assume that it is dual voice-coil.

As said above, you need a DVC sub to run 2 channels into it.

The sub is rated at 260 rms. So even if you could bridge the 4 channels on the amp, you'd be overpowering it quite a bit.

I would bridge two channels and run the sub with that and use the other two channels for your fronts unless you've already got those on an amp.
