$1000 for a great system.

$165 shipped, Resonant Engineering RE 6.5" Components.
$100 Wiring, go cheap here. Knu Konceptz is an excellent place for wiring.
$150 Monitor 1 120.2 Amplifier, does around 150X2 @ 4 ohms.
$300 Get either an Alpine 9833 or Pioneer 860MP, both great HU's.
$169.00 Oz Audio Matrix Elite 12"
With left over cash get any sub amp that can do at least 500 watts and your golden. This would be an extremely nice sounding setup if you install it correctly. Car Audio can get extremely expensive though, and you'll learn the install can make or break a good sounding system.

with you not knowing much about car audio, how good are you with hand tools etc. if you needed to make a sub box?

right now, i would reccomend if you know how to build a box etc. going over to http://www.respl.com and looking at the SE selection of subs. get a single 12" woofer, and place a jbl 600.2 amp onto it. Get the amp from http://www.ikesound.com. then, if you want new speakers also, i would reccomend going over to SOMEONE HELP ME!! THE PLACE THAT HAS THE CDT CL61A'S ON SALE!, i forget the website. and then finding a cheap amp to power them. the amp probably would be from http://www.partsexpress.com and try a phoenix gold amp, that puts out about 75x2watts. then you would need some wiring, and i would run over to http://www.knuknonceptz.com and pick up a distro block, some 2 ga wire to run from your battery to the back, and then some 4 ga wire to run to the amps, however the phoenix gold amp prolly only needs 8 ga wire, so somewhere you may have to distro the 4 guage into an 8 ga. then you will need some speaker wire, and some rca cables.

or go to your local car audio shop, and shop there, they can be of great help, just come back and let us know what they are trying to sell you.

thezeb.com is what you were trying to remember.

Yes, but many aftermarket headunits have a lot more functions, most notably the ability to play MP3s and WMAs and what not (lots more functions, though). Also, the stock head unit probably puts out less than 14W or 15W RMS per channel, whereas some aftermarket head units can do over 25W RMS/channel, which means that if you don't listen to music that loud, you won't need an amp (though an amp is recommended for better SQ).

yea, those components are supposed to be great, i forgot about them. However, they are goin to be hard to find as they are supposedly flying out the door as fast as they can get them.

Tongue in cheek.
For only $34K you can replace your Jeeps body with an 04 Acura TL and enjoy great sounds. Or you can go with Alpine.

Flash G, I already have a 03 Z06, and a 03 745li to drive also. So I don't need an Acura aka Honda.

Really nice system here. Couldn't go wrong with that at all.

For 5k he could get a decent system and get his TJ rolling on 35"s, I like that idea

make sure everything is waterproof.

I sunk my wrangler a few times ... it doesn't make for a good boat.

Crutchfield has been very good to me, so I doubt I'd try anybody else unless they were a lot cheaper.

They offer 10% discounts on "complete" systems, i.e., speakers and head unit. I also got in on a "buy one pair, get 50% off the second pair" sale on Infinity Kappas. That made a set of Kappas cheaper than the Infinity Reference Series speakers I was planning to purchase. (Start adding stuff to the shopping cart to see the discounts.)

They also give you decent installation instructions for your specific car, free wiring harnesses and dashboard kits with your order, and they charge very reasonable shipping rates.

I've also got a $20 off $200 referral code for you. It saves you $20 off your first order, and gives me a credit for my next order. PM me if you decide to order from Crutchfield.

(EVERYBODY: PLEASE DO NOT ASK ME FOR THE CODE IF YOU'RE NOT ABOUT TO ORDER FROM CRUTCHFIELD. FIRST TIME ORDERS ONLY.)
