I am looking for a CD player for my car, and want to know what players you guys think are good(no knowing much about car audio stuff myself).
Anyway I don't want to spend more then $200
What brands are good?
I am trying to decide if I want to get one with an mp3 player also, or save mony and just go with the cd player....

Thanks

Isaiah

Do a search, this has been asked dozens of times, but regardless, I like my Pioneer.

If I win the auction (part of me wants to be outbid) I'll let you know how what I think of the Blaupunkt MP3000. If I don't win that auction, I'll take a Panasonic CQ-DP171U instead and let you know what I think of that.

An Alpine with MP3 playback will be way over $200. And the expensive Alpines have ridiculous motorized faceplates and crap like that. Just stuff to break IMHO.

Good question..which one has the best skip/vibration resistance? All the glit and glitter mean nothing if the thing skips everytime a bump in the road is felt. And how tollerant are they to CD-r disks? I hear some of them won't play nothing but industry made cd's..

I just got a JVC MP3510 about a month ago and am pretty dang happy with it. Cost was under $160 at Best Buy; doesn't skip, picks up where it left off and hasn't barfed on any of my CDR's yet.

Alpine. Your looking at over 200 clams for most things with MP3 read. For the money, you can't beat an Alpine. I have 2 and will never own any other brand.

Why? You don't owe Alpine or any other company anything. When I'm looking for a head unit, I'm going to get the best one for my money. Brand Loyalty is for losers and it doesn't mean a thing.

If I didn't have a proprietary Sony CD changer tying me down, I'd go with Alpine or Blaupunkt. Alpine is the best, and they've got a nice CD deck for well under $200 now!! I really wanted it, but had to stick with Sony for my changer. Blaupunkt makes absolutely supurb stuff. I like my new Sony CD/MP3 deck and have had flawless performance thus far, but this is my 3rd Sony deck- they seem to die on an annual basis. Sony makes great stuff, but I'd shy away from their head units. I vote Alpine.

Brand loyalty is for losers? Wtf? That's ludicrous, man. It sounds like you've been raised around Pontiacs, Quasar TVs and 32 cent burritos all your life and have never been around a good, quality product before. If I find something that works wonderfully for me that I recommend to everyone, the company doesn't screw me over, and there's nothing that can beat it on the market, then they've got a customer for life. Brand loyalty is a wonderful thing- what's your beef?

I bought this JVC about a month ago and I'm very happy with it. Works with CD-Rs full of MP3's and even CD-RW's full of MP3's.

It usually sells for $230. I got it from Circuit City during a special offer for $199.

Good luck

If you want just a CD player then you can get almost any old one and it will work fine for you. If you want a mp3 cd player and are worried about costs, you can get a cheap Jensen one for around 150. Although cheap, the Jensen unit is actually pretty decent quality. I've owned a Rockford Fosgate RFX9400 (their top of the line mp3 player) as well as a Jensen unit and I like the Jensen one a lot more

Does it really matter? I mean, is there a big difference between even a very cheap one and $300+ other than fancy stuff. Like, sound quality should be quite close between most models...?

I asked this question many months ago. I still haven't bought one!

On one hand, this damn portable + car adapter is annoying. Have to hit start everytime and switch to about the song I was last at... plus it can get in the way with the damn cords.
On the other hand, why should I spend almost $200 when what I have right now works perfectly fine!

Kind of a dilemma, but I may as well get a decent one, like $150-$200...

Nothing personal against you or anyone else. Brand loyalty can be a dangerous thing. Notice how all of Alpine's head units cost less this year? I think it's because they're skimping on quality and features. Alpine loyalists would disagree with me because they've always owned Alpine and owe their lives to Alpine too apparantly. I'm saying don't look for a brand, look for a head unit. If there was a certain Pioneer unit that was better then an Alpine, I say don't go for the Alpine just because it's an Alpine. Go for the better one. Oh, and I think Toyota makes some of the best quality cars on the road. I bet you were hoping I was some sort of American car supporter so you could bash me some more. Sorry pal, not this time.

I just bought the Pioneer DEH 1400 from CC about 3 weeks ago and I am loving it. I got it for $140 installed and it works perfectly fine. A lot of people said good things about Pioneer, so I went with them, and I am glad I did.

I got what must be the same one about a month ago from Good Guys, and I really like it, it has better EQ controls than you get with most.

I bought my Alpine at circuit city also. It's this one!. Out of door price $220~
It's funny how some people here don't give you the out of door price, the salesman can easily add up another $40 for installation. Again, shop around and bargain..u gonna get a good price

Ok, I just realize that the link above doesn't link to the product page. That sucks
For the record, it's CDM-7874..not a bad unit and fits ur budget nicely.

About the brand loyalty, well, Alpine has the best reputation in car audio so it must have been doing something right. Belive me! It does make a difference! The sony one which I previously owned...it's got more feature and power but it suck big time!! Go for the brand name u trust the most!! If unfortunately it's sony then go for sony...although I wouldn't recommend one

i have to agree, alpines are THE best decks you can buy for car systems

Technically, Denon is the best deck you can get for your car system.
