Car guys- got any info on this "concept" SUV ?

I read about this in a mgazine a while back, and now i cant remember where I read it.
At an autoshow, Dodge displayed a Durango with a Detroit Diesel Delta V6 in it. From what I can remember, they also claimed that the mpg was in the 30's. Has anyone seen anything else about this? I would be the first one to the dealer if they ever put this engine in the 1500 series pickup. Plus I think many other people would be lined up for an SUV that got 30mpg, even if it was a diesel.

Diesel engines usaly get pretty good milage. I'd avoid it, because I dont want to have to worry about running a cord to a block heater for those northen ohio winters we get.

I would not be surprised to see a reasonably powered diesel SUV with that kind of mileage in optimal conditions, and fortunately nowadays, diesel vehicles don't have to stink.

(Note however, diesel engines do put out a lot of emissions, if that is a concern. Even despite their often better mileage, the emissions will be significantly worse than a comparable gasoline powered vehicle.)

Around here however, diesel fuel isn't actually cheaper than gasoline, and the gas stations with it are harder to find.

Good points Eug.
It would take many years for diesels to take off in North America like they are in Europe. I can imagine that fuel would be pretty hard to find in the big cities. As far as emissions, they have gooten better, and I had seen some links that compare the harmfulness of gas emissions vs. diesel, and diesel came out ahead. The American public has yet to learn that diesel is just more efficient than gas.

Didn't find any info about a Diesel in a Durango but it looks like the 2005 Durango/Dakota hybrids (like the toyota prius/honda insight) will be offered as an option. I heard they got 27mpg.

nevermind, found the info. Looks like the 4.0 liter V6 diesel currently has a peak output of 235 bhp and 375 ft.lb and is as quiet as regular passenger cars!

I will probably end up getting a 3/4 or 1 ton with the cummins in it though, when I actaully need a new vehicle.
