Here's the deal. I got my first ticket in Sept 2001. 10mph and got 2 pts for it. That will be gone this Sept. but I just got another ticket for speeding and another 2pts. My insurance has never gone up and from what I understand it never will unless the insurance company needs to run a check on my record for something. I need to add a 2nd car to my insurance policy cuz I just bought an 85 Fiero GT (its getting a LS1 ) so if I add that car they will see my record and I will get nailed for insurance. I'm already paying 4500 a year on a Camaro SS. If I were to call another insurance company, and have them insure the Fiero, would I be in the clear with my original insurance company and my Camaro? Or will they be able to tell and will my insurance go up?

I know I have to pay more on the Fiero no matter what, but I'm trying to avoid paying more for the Camaro when I get the Fiero insured. So what can I do?

Depends on the insurance company. Most won't care what engine is in the car, but more the crash statistics for the vehicle. If fiero's in general have a lower # of claims then they could care less what engine is in the thing. It's not that the camaro is a sports car that raises your insurance, it's all those 16 year old punks who wreck their camaros the day after they get them.

BTW, my insurance for a 20 year old to drive an '87 Porsche w/ 2 tickets in the last 6 months (3 points total) is $2000/year for full coverage

4500 a year? That's why they didn't feel the need to go any higher when you had the tickets

I think you are misunderstanding him, his problem isn't with actually getting the Fiero insured. He is just worried that if he adds this car to his policy they will realize he has 2 speeding tickets and raise his premiums. Although I wonder which insurance company he's with that doesn't know when policy holders get tickets.

Depending on who he goes with for the second policy, they will ask for any moving violations within 2/ 3 years. That will vary from company to company. So, company 2 may see all the tickets as well, and base their rate accordingly.
Insurance companies are generally pretty careful to cover their ass.

He just doesn't want the company that is insuring the Camaro to find out about the tickets as well.

I'm just amazed over 4500 for an insurance. Are you 16 and living in a bad neighbourhood??
In my experience getting a ticket or two doesn't really affect the cost of the insurance that much. Why don't you just phone an insurance company and ask them what parameters they use to determine the price. I'm sure that it's not a big secret.

Another company will likely pull a DMV record and possibly a credit report.

With progressive I can add and remove a car online and they don't check my record, but I believe once a year(when my policy's up) they check it. right now I pay $1200 a year for just liability on a 93 SHO

Obviously you're a moron who has no idea what you're talking about. How do you know he doesn't make $200,000/year?

He's obviously not buying it as a primary means of transportation.

If he's making $200,000 a year, common sense dictates he wouldn't be all huffy puffy over insurance then.
