well, im 18, live in central fl (lake county), and im looking to renew my insurance for another year, i call and its as follows:

w/ Direct (aka florida no fault)
$320 down
$170 a month

not full coverage either, just coverage for the other ppl, nothing on my car even.

car = 1996 toyota corolla, auto, dual airbags, abs, blah blah.

me = 18, one bumper accidnet, like 600$ in damage, nothing big. no speeding, or anything. the minor accidnet happened OVER a year ago.

where can i go? i dont get how it can be so expensive, not even full coverage, lil econobox, etc.

Insurance rates basically suck for males until they reach 25.

try geico

Geico

It doesn't matter that the accident was a year ago, they look farther back than that. You are also at the worst age and gender possible for car ins. (I was there too). anyway shop around and see if you can get lower!

I've heard that Geico's claims customer service is horrible to work with.

You may have saved money paying for that guy's bumper yourself...

But yeah, geico is what we have now and as long as you don't get in any accidents you'll pay alot less. They'll drop you in a second if you do though.

I pay 160 a month for full coverage, on a 1998 Nissan 200sx (2 door). I'm an 18 year old male with a perfect record, good student discount, and a discount for driving school. I'm under my parents policy, but I'm listed as the only driver on my vehicle. My insurance is under American National

You think that's bad? I'm an 18 year old male with three speeding tickets (one I got supervision for and didn't break), four other tickets that I beat in court, and four cars (including one that's very fast). Insurance costs are threatening to bury me alive.

Yeah, insurance rates sure do suck for teens and people in their early 20's. It's because they have a disporportionate number of accidents. It is actually true, teens tend to me more careless behind the wheel and I look out for them when I'm on the road. I got killed on my insurance premiums just like you when I was your age, and I had a perfect driving record. It will come down eventually. Now I'm 27 and full coverage on my Mitsubishi Eclipse GT is $91 bucks a month.

Auto insurance = teh extortion.

"Its protection, we wouldn't want any harm to come to you. Of course you MUST take our protection and pay out the nose for it - or else."

/joins the "rant against insurance rapists" thread.

I haven't even had as much as a parking ticket, let alone a moving violation.

But because I'm a male between 16 and 25, I get shafted harder than Edward Norton in American History X.

What regulations exist for an insurance company? I want to start my own and insure myself to avoid these horrible premiums.

I just ran through progressive and they quoted me at $449/6 month for the basic plan. Next plan up was $527 (I believe). Not bad I suppose for a 21 year old male who rents and has been in an accident.

It will get better.

25 yrs old - $78 mo. for 99 Explorer (wife and myself). Plus I get a nice little refund check for my homeowners' insurance. Discounts on both for doubling up. I'm sure it gets even better from here.
