If it's something that is a) limited and b) in high demand, then you are going to take it in the rear.

The Honda S2000's were going for $5,000 above the MSRP!!! That's insane! That is 17% of the vehicles original asking price ABOVE what the manufacturer suggests to sell it at.

Well I wouldn't say the TL Type-S is limited "limited." It's just that not a lot of them will be produced annually compared to the base model... hopefully, Acura will overproduce them, there has been a lot of hype in the TL community, with a lot of dealers taking orders for deliver since November and December. I guess if I wait till the summer and let supply catch up to demand, I'd be able to get an ok deal.

Yeah, the S2000 prices were crazy. The dealership near my town was selling it at around $40k. My friend had to go up to upstate New York to get it for $38k (that was when it first came out). He just traded it in for a CL Type-S (just got married). Got around $30k for it...

vi_ I think honda does but I no longer qualify...I'll check though. I know toyota does at least.

Skoorb, I know that a lot of car manfs. have a two year period after graduation where you can apply for the incentive.

I know for sure that GMC, Ford, and Mazda have a two year timeframe post graduation where you can use it.

Man, I come in here ready to do some major-league typing and all the excellent advice is already here! Nice work, AT members.

All I can think to add is: if the dealer knows you are dead set on a particular car (or model), you'll have an uphill battle. They will drag things out until you cave (or leave). We drove the Jeep dealer nuts by telling him we were choosing between a Jeep and a Chevy. He kept trying to get me to understand why the Jeep is much better (so it will cost more, of course) and we just kept saying we didn't care which one we got - when we were definitely going to get the Jeep. Of course, he couldn't get the price down to the Chevy level, but it was very effective in negotiating. So try not to let the dealer know you are in love with a certain car.

Kranky... damn... good idea! But then I'd have to sit through their spiel... hehehe. I already know of a car to mention against the TL Type-S (I30t).

So should I do this when I've found a specific dealer with a good price on the TL-S, or when I'm still shopping around dealers... casually mentioning the I30t, and the other Acura dealers? Since I currently have an Infiniti, I could make a spiel about how well I've been taking care of and what not...
