My wild guess will be the headlight switch. All that crap usually runs through it. Do the brake lights still work when you step on the brake?

Yes they do. And everything works FINE when I use my remote start.

Try spraying contact cleaner in your ignition. Clean it out with q-tips. The early Aurora's had many problems with too much grease in the steering column.

I'm a novice...where is the ignition located? Under the hood?

Uhh, it's where the KEY goes in in the steering column

All right....sorry did not know. But why would the lights and everything work with the remote start? Why will the interior lights not come on even if I switch the lights on manually?

UPDATE:

I just called Bobby Likus Car Clinic to see what part I needed. They said I needed a Body Control Module and it will cost somewhere around $300.00 for the part itself. What do you guys think?

If it works fine through your remote start, then I'd say the problem is the remote start brain itself.

wild guess.

Yeah, the ridiculous thing here (and I would think the dealers would be freaking out) is the remote start, which obviously was not a factory part. That COULD be causing some of your symptoms. Also, from the problem description, it sounds like you could have 2, or even 3, entirely different issues.

I'm sure there is. Should I just go straight through the dealer and get raped?

Well, the man that put the remote start in is one of the best in the business in my opinion. I have all the faith in the world in him that he would do a good job. But, I will put that into consideration.

It sounds like you have a bad ignition switch, or one of the accessory wires from the ignition switch is disconnected or shorted (possibly from the remote start install). It might also be a factotry relay connected to the ignition switch.

The remote starter will use its own relays to bypass the ignition switch and power the lights, ac, etc, and all those circuits seem okay except for when they are running off of the ignition key switch. The fact that it chimes all the time points to something wrong with the ignition switch as well.

As a novice there is not much you can do yourself to diagnose or fix this. Although you might check to see if there are any wires disconnected where the ignition harness and remoter starter are spliced together, but it is probably a long-shot if the installer was as good as you say.

I replaced the electrical portion of my ignition switch in my '96 Sunfire for about $20 for the part and less than an hour of time, and I am no expert. It might be a cheaper place to start than the $300 body control module.

I really doubt it is the remote starter's "brain" that is causing the problem, since the only time everything works is when the remote stater is powering the electrical system.

You really need someone you can trust to diagnose the problem, and go from there.

Good Luck.

Ha-Ha!! My Mom-In-Law had one of those, same year, she bought it new. She got rid of it at 36k miles because of all the problems she had with it.

Then again she replaced it with a '98 BMW 740i, had a bunch of problems with it and unloaded it for her current car, a Mercedes Benz E320 which she still has. It's about to go out of warranty and she's going to get rid of it...go figure.

My advice to you is unload that horrible hunk of sh!t.

Exactly. I'm doing that right now with mine, and you would be wise to do the same. Every repair is costly on that car.
