I say again - NEED UNRESIZED PICS.

Come on, mentat - pics that nice don't come from a camera phone only capable of VGA.

as for the checker stripes...that wasnt a paint job, that was tape plastered across the side of the car.

I've seen that car a few times myself around Irvine. I tried to take some pics last month of it while I was on 55N, but it got away very quickly.

It could be a Mazda6, as the MazdaHQ is just a few blocks away from that position in that pic (MacAuthor/Main St), and they got another location in MacAuthor/Red Hill).

in that case, I would agree, cuz Prototype will not use rims like those.

first off, i think its a nissan b/c the car following it with a walkie talkie was a nissan. I think its a prototype b/c thats what they do with prototypes. cover them up so people cant see the details of the design. the car manufacture wants to get some specs on the car without the public knowing about it

i worked a car show here in az way back in the late 90s. every single one of the prototypes was trucked in, closed up in a special trailer. each one was put on custom jacks that allowed us to wheel them around freely without worrying about steering or engines, and each one was not covered in the stuff that car is covered, which is used to protect the car fromdamage while transporting (either on the road or on the back of an open trailer). if they reallu wanted to test out the cars for specs or whatever, they would take it to a proving ground... proving grounds whole purpose is to road test cars without public scrutiny. theres a couple here in az as well.

overall, looks like a custom being delivered, and the chase car with the walkietalkie was the guys ride home.

You're not really too knowledgable about automotive test mules. They do put them out on the road in camo all the time. They do test on proving grounds as well but the fact is they cannot fully recreate real roads, so they put them on the road for further testing.

Nobody hides custom done cars like some of you people seem to think. If anything they want to show them off even more. Those would be cars that would be trucked to locations if they deliver them.

So please instead of trying to argue that its anything but a workhorse of a new car in development, go and look at the hundreds of other spy photos.

As for the car following, I don't know that the OP is totally sure it was a Nissan (a lot of people think they know cars but get mixed up easily). Not only that, but it could have been photographers following the car to get pictures (say for a magazine) the same as the OP and his friend did, so even if it was a Nissan it doesn't necessarily mean anything.

that has dual exhausts on one side... don't think it's a mazda. Though, I can see it in the lights where you'd get that. The front seems really short though... or maybe it's the angle?

I think it is fairly short but because of the way it is shaped it seems even shorter. Look at the link by tersome, it shows a very similar looking car that even has the same diagnol line pattern on the side as the OPs pics do, and its clearly a Mazda.

That's obviously the mazda that someone linked.

Another tell tale sign is the dash instrument scoop, which looks nothing like Nissan's multi-bubble design on all of their cars (a design I despise).
