Profit isn't a crime, but car sales is a market where you can easily fleece people to pad your wallet. Being in a sales oriented industry yourself, you have a bit of a bias twords the profession.
It's not so much a bias, it's just that those of us in sales-oriented professions see the grandma-rapers as incompetent bottom-feeders. They're raping grandma because they can't close enough deals and are desperate to pay their bills.
About actually being a car salesman, the big drawback is the hours. A really good buddy of mine is a sales manager for a large dealership. Typical hours there are to rotate weekends, working every other weekend, with two 12 hour days (called a "bell-to-bell"), 2 half days (one morning, one evening), and then an 8 hour day til close each week (it all adds up to 40). Put it together and you work 4 evenings each week plus every other weekend. And according to my buddy, this is one of the best work schedules in the industry locally.
