Car speaker setup help

I'm trying to replace the stock speakers in my 2001 toyota 4runner and im wondering if theres any advice to be given. I have two 12 inch subs that were installed from a car shop in the back of my car. Im trying to save some money because its a pretty easy procedure but is there any specific things i need to worry about like wattage, what the maximum power output is, or whether or not itll sound better. Do I need an amplifier for the door speakers if I already have one for my subs?? all advice for a beginner is welcome, and also advice on products too! thank you

how many channels is your amplifier? if its a mono or a 2 channel then yes you will need one for you're speakers, if anything try running em off the head unit first.. and what is your budget? always build around a budget.

Your going to need a separate amp if your going to want more power than the headunit provides, but that is enough for most folks.

I have to ask: How happy were you with the way it sounded before.

Here is what I am thinking: You bought the truck. You felt the truck needed a little bit 'more' from the stereo. You took it to an audio shop. They put in an amp and some subs. You were happy. Years and years later, the door speakers are shot. You want suggestions on what to do.

If that is fairly accurate, then I suggest you go to Crutchfield.com and enter in your car info. Look for replacement speakers for the doors and know that what you will buy will fit and work. Read the reviews and see what others liked. You'll pay a bit more for the parts at Crutchfield, but their service is great and if you have a problem you can call and talk to a tech. You can always buy the speakers that you saw will fit from somebody other than Crutchfield.com. The stereo will sound better with just about any replacement speakers. Be happy for a few more years.

If my guess is inaccurate, then you'll need to provide more information. IMO: There is no reason to add another amplifier unless you were unhappy with the way the stereo sounded after it left the car audio shop (IOW: After you had the subwoofers installed).
