Car speakers on a PC?

I'm interested in hooking up some basic car speakers on a PC. I really know close-to-nothing about car audio.

Basically car speakers are unpowered speakers and that's what an amp is for, right?

So if I was to purchase an amp and a couple speakers can I hook them up to my PC? My main question is.. how would I power the amp? I'm not sure if it's AC or DC and what kind of power supply I could get to make it work.

Can anyone shed some light on my ignorance?

[EDIT]: In case anyone is curious why I want to do this.. it's for my MAME cabinet that I am building.

I used 1 Batterycharger to run my Car Amp and Tuner via the House...

I believe you would need a 12V, DC power supply... with enough current (10 - 20A) to supply the amp with stable power.. I believe Radio Shack would have something that would suit your needs..

The size in AMPS of the Power Supply that U 'll need deppends directly of the output RMS Watts of the amplifier!

Also have in cosideration that AudioCar Speakers are not magnetic shielded, so be VERY careful in the location of the speakers!!!

Absolutely dont stick them anywhere near your CRT or, more importantly, your hard drive(s). Not sure what that kind of EM field would do to a regular PCB circuitry, like your motherboard, but I'd imagine you wouldnt want big unshielded speakers near ANY of your computer equipment.
