If I was overly concerned with 0 to 60 times I would have gotten a mustang. Sometimes cars are about more than the numbers.

And yet you went out of your way to post an incorrect time and point out how much better your Fiesta was than the Sequioa... Sounds like concern to me.

When you stretch the truth don't get pissy when people call you on it.

The Fiesta ST is a decently quick little car but it's not in the "surprisingly fast" category. The OP was talking about how even big heavy cars can be quick in the 0-70-0 world that we normally live in, then you came in bragging about being able to go 140 mph in your Fiesta and stretching the truth about its acceleration when anyone could see that it wasn't relevant.

It does zero to 60 around the 6 second mark
Around the 6 second mark. Sorry I didn't go into the tenths. I knew it was mid 6 or somewhere in there. Like I said before I'm really not into the numbers pissing contests like you are apparently. For 21k I could have gotten into something much faster in a straight line. Hell I could have bought a drag car. Maybe then I could post numbers on here and let the epeen hang with the likes of you. Hell I'm surprised you don't have your cars and their 0-60 times in your sig. I'm not sure your brain can wrap around the fact that having a number monster car doesn't mean anymore to me than the crap I flushed down the toilet this morning.

A Fiesta ST can just touch 140 on a good day if you are willing to hold the pedal down for probably close to a minute, according to C&D.

C/D TEST RESULTS:
Zero to 60 mph: 7.0 sec
Zero to 100 mph: 17.6 sec
Zero to 130 mph: 39.0 sec
Rolling start, 5-60 mph: 7.5 sec
Standing ¼-mile: 15.2 sec @ 93 mph
Top speed (drag limited): 143 mph

Not a new trend.

Porsche started it with their Cayenne.

BMW and Mercedes followed suit with the X5M / X6M and the G63 AMG.

Then Porsche finished it with the Cayenne S Turbo.

People are just starting to notice that the Japanese automakers are trying to get a little slice of that. Good for them.

But yeah, its nearly 2015. 6 second 0-60 isn't fast anymore. I thought my newly acquired WRX was a pocket rocket then I realized a typical japanese V6 sedan can beat me a straight line.

When turbo 4's are now the *norm*, anything less than a V8 is not fast. It's just economy speeds.

I was driving a minivan the other day (2011 Dodge) and doing what I commonly have to do- attempt to replicate a problem by beating the snot out of a vehicle.

Coincidentally, I remember being mildly impressed with the power, and then thinking 'you know...this thing would trounce a late 80's/early 90's Corvette.'

I would love to back in time and tell people buying sports/muscle cars of that era 'you know, by 2010, family sedans and minivans will be more powerful than this.'

Sure we will look back in 20 years with our fancy electric motor car that destroy anything but the most exotic cars of today.

For some reason I was looking up the Toyota Sequoia for for shits and giggles. This massive, 6k pound, rolling family room of a car is able to haul ass to 60mph from a dead stop in just under 6 seconds.

http://www.060calculator.com/cars/2013/toyota/sequoia/31255

I notice this trend in quite few larger cars. These behemoths are able to drag race with entry level sports cars and win, allthewhile providing great comfort.

So if we take a look at car speed tiers they pretty much are aligned like this in order of fastest to slowest:

  • Expensive super cars
    Expensive sports cars
    Expensive Luxury vehicles
Giant SUVs / Loaded work trucks
Entry level sports cars / entry level luxury cars / loaded family sedans
    Loaded minivans
Entry level sedans / loaded sub compacts
    Entry level minivans
    Entry level sub compacts
    Prius

This Sequoia can race an a4 and it would be a toss up assuming both are auto.

Curious that this is the case. I would expect that they make the smaller lighter cars faster (at least the entry level luxury vehicle department).
Prius isn't the slowest car on that list, there are huge trucks that have 0-60 times the same or slower than a Prius. Also they still make sub compact cars with a 0-60 of like 12s.

Easy to make a car accelerate fast, just put a bigger engine. And people buying those huge trucks don't care about gas consumption. But they take 2 miles to stop, and roll over in curves...

0-60 is one thing. 80-130 is quite another.

Nothing like being pressed back into the seat after you floor it. And you're already doing 75. A Sequioa can not do this.

Few typical street cars can accelerate hard from 75mph though, even if they can get to 130.

What year WRX? If 2010 or newer, you must be forgetting to shift...not a lot of sub 5.2sec 0-60 v6 Japanese sedans.

I kind of agree with the V8 comment, but that's mostly because newer cars are so heavy (at least sub $75k ones). Put a potent 2.0T in a Miata, and it would fly. 'Fast' means different things to different people. To truck guys, it is straight-line 0-60 times. I like to think of it as part acceleration and part handling. That 'fast' truck sure seems lame when a car like the Miata destroys it with 1/2 or even 1/3 the power. :awe:

That was the point I was trying to make. Only a few cars can do that. People say "even a Camry can go 0-60 in under 7 seconds" which is true, but my point is that a Toyota Camry can't do what true fast car can do, which is have power to spare when you're going 75.
