I have a Nissan Sentra '95 and I'm looking to replace da whoooole deal sound wise:

Speakers
Polk Audio db6501
Bass
Bazooka BT6024DVC
Amp
Alpine MRP-F300 (if it doesn't sound good enough through the head unit, some reviews of the Polk speakers said an amp really helps)
Head unit
< no clue >

Is there a head unit JUST for iPod stuff? That's the part that's killing my budget here, I just want a $30 P.O.S. that puts digitatronic iPod stuff into my awesome speakers, nothing else. If I pop my current head unit out, would there be RCA inputs in the back or something awesome?

Any of the new kenwood receivers has ipod integration into it, as well as USB thumb drive support. so you dont even need your ipod if you want. I got the top of the line kenwood (kdc-x993) and it's the best head unit i've ever owned. period. and i used to be a pioneer /alpine guy.

does your current head unit have an aux in? if so you can get an RCA to mini plug cable that allows you to plug your ipod into the stereo.

Bazooka? I would not recommend those... Just get a simple sealed box and a decent 10" or 12" sub. I like my Alpine Type R, been going strong for 3 years.

i have a kenwood with the usb ipod thingie too. doesnt work with the touch tho, its an older model. i also have an aux plug in to get other devices on there. this kenwood has been the best one ive had in any of my vehicles to date, i usually go for alpine or jvc. got the kenwood from a friend of mine who owns a custom shop, i traded computer work for it.

thirded. a 10" type r is cheap and would stomp anything bazooka makes in both quality and loudness.

you're going to have to spend at least $100 on a headunit, most likely, because cheap ones typically only have preouts for your sub and not front (or rear) speakers. while one headunit doesn't really sound 'better' than another, having some decent control over equalization and crossover settings also contributes a lot to the sound of your stereo.

Bazooka tubes sound like shit. Just get a single quality 10" sub. Your ears will thank you.

what do you mean? Most sub drivers have a manual which has the specs for the size enclosure that it would work best in, as well as the amount of wattage you should match it up with amp wise.

95 Sentra? So your stereo will be worth more than the car? I hope you live in the suburbs...

I have an Alpine 9886. Comes with USB and iPod connections.

USB does not sort correctly. I've tried album folders in the root and also within an artist folder. I can't determine the sort, because it fucking changes each time I load it.

The iPod control from the deck is clunky. When it's time to load a new album, it defaults to the first album. blech. I end up disconnecting it from the cable, searching and selecting with the iPod's controls, then connecting it up.

Other than that and the control wheel (I prefer buttons in a car stereo), I love my head unit. Three 4v pre-outs. Wireless remote. Great sound.
